Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
5/3 took a 7.50 debit and turned it into a $209 overdraft. The amounts kept jumping from pending to posted and back again. Started on 7/30 when I used my debit card a couple of times for under $100. Took out $20 at ATM on Sunday. On Monday, saw these in the posted column with about $160 left in availabe so I pay my electric bill for $106. On Tuesday, I see the posted are back in the pending and vice versa and I've been whacked for 3 $33 overdraft fees. And a nasty letter online.

So I call customer service, and talk to some guy who posed as a supervisor who was really rude, and then to his supervisor who didn't have any authority but told me that my branch flagged my account to not reverse overdrafts fees. So I got connected to my branch to find out why and they were rude and said "Mamm, you've been told already that we're not reversing your fees!"

So I asked for the bank manager and he was with a customer so I said fine, I'm coming to see him. When I got there, he had stepped out to go to a meeting down the street. Where? Target? So I waited. He came, in walked by and finally after I stared at him, he approached me.

We went to his office. Talk about Mr. Slick. Telling me stuff like I'm an idiot. I explain all this to him and he says "never use your debit card on Friday". Those debits won't get looked at till Monday. Then what comes in Mon and the other 3 days of the weekend get all dumped together and that's why I have 3 overdrafts. I said, well, that's crazy.

I said I'm willing to meet you halfway if you take off 2 of them I'll pay one. He said I'll see what I can do. What he did is the next day, they changed all the posted to pending in reverse and charged me 3 more overdraft fees so now I owe $198 in fees plus the $7.50. So I call customer service because I'm sure they made a mistake and she says no, the overdraft fees posted and somehow this made them bang me another 3 $33 fees.

So I know my paycheck is going in tonight, but I have a rent check out there somewhere and it won't cover the rent and 6 overdraft fees. So in a panic, I do a check=n=go and deposit $240 cash to cover what my paycheck doesn't. I bet tomorrow, that they'll whack me for all those $6 daily fees.

I didn't know anyone else had this problem. They were oblivious to it. You think he'd have said, hey go to check=n=go because they'll hit you with 3 more of these but NO. Not a peep. They need to change the name of the bank to the Potter Bank as it seems Mr. Potter from it's a wonderful like is running this bank. What I am going to do is pay these stupid fees, close my account, and never get another debit card in my life. Screw convenience.

I will cash my check at Meijer, use cash for everything and keep my money under my mattress from now on. I think EVERYONE in the United States should do this who's ever had to deal with something so insane and then they would put 5/3 out of business. That would hurt them. Forget class action.

I'd rather see them twist in the wind. Also, I am going to write to Wood TV 8 and tell them about this so they can do an expose on how 5/3 bank is ripping off the poor people of Michigan. I think you all should write to your news station too so they can send their consumer report guy after them. Banks are the terrorists that live right among us.

I wanted to let you know that I closed my account with fifth third and they were so rude when I did. They didn't ask why, could care less, just gave me what I had in my account and showed me the door. I have joined a smaller bank that is based here in Michigan, Macatawa, and they are the NICEST people (yes, people), in the banking industry. They help on a personal level and they make me feel valued. I'm grateful that they are here.

Hi, I read your post, and imediately knew it sounded familiar. fifth third bank is ripping people off, yes, but the best way to deal with this situation is to find a bank that does not: 1. Limit deposits to $100. 2. Deposit the largest item in a stack of withdrawals on purpose (so that all the smaller items will bounce as well). I have found several local banks in my town that do not use these predatory business practices. I'm sure there are probably a few in your area that still bank the "nice" way as well. Keep your chin up, call around to your local banks, and see which ones do not implement these policies. That's where you (and your money) want to be. Good luck.
