800 VMAILBOX, INC-VOICEMAIL Allan #0100 ATT is collecting $16.19 for voice mail I did not order or authorize. This company claims electronic authorization which is fraudlent. Forest Lake, Minnesota
On today's date, October 17, 2009, I noticed on my electronic bill that I was being charged $16.19 for a voice mail service that I had no knowledge of. Upon checking past bills, I found that the telephone company had been collecting these fees for a company called Voice Box since May of this year, 2009. On the bill, it states that if any questions to contact 1-877-376-6502. I contacted this number and someone named David anwered the phone. Eventually, I asked to talk to a supervisor and was put on hold for about 10-15 minutes and someone who would only identify himself as Allan, employee #0100 finally picked up the line.
He told me that I gave an electronic approval for this voicemail service and that an electronic approval was perfectly legal. I advised him I had never given verbal or written approval for this service which (1) I cannot afford (2) I do not need. He then stated that he could email me the electronic approval which he did. He also gave me what was suppose to be an cancellation #6425298.
This is the second time that the Telephone company has allowed someone to do this to my telephone bill. There should be some way that telephone company should bare some responsibility in making it easy for these companies to rip you off.
