Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

We are aware that they sell NEW and USED furniture and hello, they are inside of a Flea Market. I have lived in Jax all of my life. I have bought furniture from big name furniture stores, flea markets, people on CL, warehouses, discount stores, whatever, you name it. This past weekend the family and I were out at the flea market on Beach Blvd. I was there getting fruits and vegetables with no intention of shopping for furniture. We walk past some furniture and my partner decides to stop and look at some mattresses. The owner quickly comes over to help. We narrow it down to about three mattress sets, after some discussion and haggling on both parts, he finally hands over $320 for a mattress set, name brand that my mother, myself and partner have all laid on.

This mattress looks brand new, the owner said it was new and it was still wrapped in heavy plastic, though not completely sealed there were a few openings, more like holes from snagging. I give his wife my address and phone number and discuss a time to have it delivered. He says after 12 noon the next day. He never calls, my partner ends up calling him from the number on the business card. Finally, about 6pm, my partner shows up with the delivery guy, who is the owner's son shows up shortly after. I am not there supervising, I believed that my partner could handle that. The guy leaves and my partner starts putting together the frame when he calls me into the room to assist. We grab the box spring and put it down on the frame when I notice a huge spot on the mattress, still in the plastic. It's yellowed and about a third of the bottom of the mattress.

There are darker brown/ orange spots in a few places on the material as well and I fiind a few more yellow spots. Then to my horror, I step closer to see black mold spots. Not a little but a lot. Now anyone knows you cannot get mold out of mattresses. So, he calls the man back to tell him the problem. He says the man tried rushing him off the phone saying he cannot come out to look at our claims. My partner is trying to ask him to swap it out for another or even let us pay more for another one. Finally rudely saying "no refunds, no exchanges." So now I have a giant moldy mattress in my room. I am already dealing with allergies this week, my face is unbelievably dry from all of the tissues I have been though. I am now sleeping in my son's room. I hate having to walk into my room to get to my clothes or go to my bathroom. I am not taking any chances in letting my son near that mattress either.

We found out that we have a mutual friend, who spoke to the seller, he claims my BF cursed him out over the phone. Who I will add is the most unintimidating person you'll ever meet. He finally agrees to swap it out, but we have to arrange for transporting the mattresses back and forth. The BF found a friend with a truck to come out and help with the hauling. They go out and pay his wife another $100 for another mattress that is also sealed in plastic. She looks over the mattress that we are returning and says it isn't dirty, that she cleans everything they sell by hand and she can get the stains out. Nice to know, they'll probably try to resell that mattress to someone else. He and he friend check several different spots on the new mattress and assume that its clean as the plastic hasn't been damaged or ripped.

We get home, start cutting away the heavy plastic. It looks good. I'm a little concerned that is "creaky" as I am holding it with one hand and cutting the plastic with another. When I get to the head of the mattress, all along the back panel (the edged that would lay against the wall/ headboard, again, mold, not nearly as much as the last time. There are quarter inch at most, gray/ black spots scattered all over. The bottom edge is browned and frayed. The mattress tag is stained with gray mold and it litterally falls off the mattress and feels like paper. I am furious beyond words. My BF tries cleaning the spots away with diluted bleach and water and a clean cloth. Which brushes most of the spots awat, but the bottom edge really looks eaten away, like rotten fabric.

I hope no one ever buys anything from this man and his wife. He's been in business for about 2 years and most of his product has probably been sitting there that long. He appearantly isn't protecting them properly and if the "new" items come damaged, I could only imagine what is lurking in the used stuff. Spend a little more money to have the peice of mind that the salespeople or company isn't going to take your hard earned money and treat you like the garbage the sell.

I know I can file with BBB, I am also filing a Ripoff Report and putting my experience up anywhere I can find. If anyone has further information that can help me, I greatly appreciate it. I really would like to just get my money back and seriously am considering hauling back whether he gives me the cash or not.
