But you forgot something very important. AAMCO also has a multimillion dollar ad campaign driving the AAMCO name into our heads all day. "Bob's Transmission Shop" as you put it, does not. He has to earn his living by actually fixing the cars right, the first time. The independent shops all work this way. If I lose a customer, it hurts my bottom line. If a big company loses one, they don't even see the blip on the screen, it's so small.

AAmco's are privately owned franchises, owned by people just like those that own shops under different names like "Bob's Trannys" The difference is, AAmco's are a national franchise, and are responsible to the franchise to maintain specific standards in workmanship, and customer handling. This also enables the national warranty where all AAmco's service any other AAmco's warranty needs. The repairing AAmco, bills the original center for the repairs. Just because it's AAmco, doesnt mean you'll be ripped off. "Bob's" can rip you off too. Finding good people to do business with, is the key. However you do that. If an AAmco center is found to be ripping people off, AAmco corporate will shut them down. In fact, Papa AAmco, shops all AAmco's to ensure that work is legitimate, somtimes people are sneaky and hide stuff, any business, any where. But the home office is aggressive, and they'll get nailed sooner or later. The other guy's dont have anyone looking over their shoulder, nor do they have the name.

Yep it seems that the Ammco's out there in the dessert have a problem. When I worked there in Cathedral City the dealer and his sales man that was already in trouble with the MS. attorney general for ripping people off. Not only sold every car that came in but they also only reported 40% of sales to home office. So take it as a lesson and stay away from AAmco's and tell your friends as a matter of fact tell anyone who will listen stay away from them. There are good AAmco's out there but there hard to find you would be better off and I mean you really would be better off going to a independent this you would have never heard from 20 years ago.Greg
