On

Oct 7th 2009 After the transmission on my 2003 Acura TL Type S failed

on a LA freeway, I had it towed to AAMCO Transmission in Lancaster, CA.

I was drawn in by their offer to electronically diagnose my

transmission problem free of charge! After speaking with the service

manager known as "RON" it was determined that a removal and tear down

of the transmission was required to figure out what

needed to be replaced. I left my vehicle and agreed to pay $800 for the

removal and tear down of my transmission with the understanding that if

I walked away without a repaid I would still be obligated to pay the

$800 in labor coast and the vehicle returned to me. Five days later the

service manager informed me that it would cost $4,200 to rebuild my

transmission. In taking some time to do some research and make an

informed decision, I contacted an Acura dealership to compare prices.

To my surprise I could purchase an original equipment Acura

transmission from the dealership for $1749! Astonished to discover this

huge disparity in price, I contacted AAMCO and made it clear that

instead of spending $4200 on a rebuild that I would like acquire the

transmission from the dealership for $1749 and have them install it for

their total labor cost of $800. This would have brought the price down

to $2500! A far more reasonable cost than the $4200 I had been quoted.

After a day or two of back and forth phone calls and Ron trying to

convince me that AAMCO could build a better transmission than the

original equipment purchased form Acura I began to get annoyed that my

wishes with my property were being challenged. I am the customer and

should have the right to repair my car in a manner in which I see fit.

Not the way that's going to make them the most money!  The service

manger then informed me that after speaking to the owner of the

franchise "ERIC HAMINI" it was decided that they would only provide me

with the option of a rebuild. I demanded to speak with the owner myself

and was told by Ron that any messages had to be relayed through him and

that he and he alone makes the decisions (How cowardly). After telling

me what my only option was Ron rudely stated that I needed to decide

what i wanted to do because he was busy and hung up the phone on me

(Yeah that's professional HA!). I contacted several other AAMCO shops

in the Los Angeles area and non of the service managers could believe

that the Lancaster store was being so unreasonable as to not provide me

with the less expensive option of installing a transmission direct from

the Acura Remanufacturer. Every other AAMCO shop told me that they do

removal and installation of dealer parts all the time and try to offer

their customers more than just the option of a total rebuild especially

when you can get an original replacement for half the cost! The only

difference between AAMCO doing a rebuild or installing a remanufactured

transmission should be the terms of the warranty. In the end I was

forced to have Lancaster AAMCO reassemble my transmission, reinstall it

and have my car towed to a more reasonable shop willing to do the work.

So now the job that should have cost me around $2500 now cost me the

additional $800 AAMCO robbed me of because I wouldn't allow them to

charge me the cost of a rebuild, when purchasing and installing

remanufactured original equipment from the Acura Dealership would have

been half the cost. AUTO-MOD a specilty shop on Sierra Hwy near Ave J

specializes in Hondas and Acura's. Auto-Mod completed the work the more

logical way by replacing the transmission and even gave me a 1 year

warranty on the transmission to inclube labor. This was my $800

mistake! Clearly this the management of Lancaster AAMCO lack integrity

and consumers everywhere should not accept this form of tyranny when it

comes to our property and hard earned dollar. Unless you are willing to

be FINANCIALLY RAPED by  ERIC HAMINI's LANCASTER AAMCO and go through

the above stated ignorance, do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY!!!

Having worked as a Manager in a Independent trans shop I agree that you never ever install used or another shops product. All it gets you is warranty Nightmares and Lawsuits. I have on ocaision installed customer supplied units, but never bought another shops product for a customer, the instant you do the customer expects you to provide warranty. The customer did not want to understand or work with the trans shop. This AAMCO shop was correct to send him away.

It is Obvious that Ron is inebriated on his own AAMCO Kool-Aid and lacks the intelligence and integrity to accomplish proper fact finding! I 100% stand by my initial statement of facts. The unknown internet source Ron is claiming I wanted to get my transmission from is actually an bonafide reputable Acura Dealership! it is ACURA OF PEORIA, ARIZONA. I challenge anyone to contact this dealership and get a quote of more than the $1749. The prices Ron quoted come from a Los Angeles area dealership. The location of the dealership is not relevant. This is why we have the ability to ship items in this country. All Acura dealerships get their parts from the exact same Honda Manufacturer. Ron was given the contact information for Acura of Peoria but still refused to follow through with my request. I implore everyone to do all of your own research when it comes to prices auto repair and don't allow yourselves to be robbed by shady carnies such as Ron. Anyone is welcomed to contact Acura of Peoria and challenge my findings! So now everyone can see that it is Ron that needs to stop the lies!

Thank You,

DON GEORGE - 516-967-8792 (Anyone can call me to hear my story and prevent themselves from dealing with these CROOKS!)

#4REBUTTAL Owner of company

There are always two sides to the story, First of all Mr. DON
Needed an overhaul on his transmission as well as a Case, because his car is to low and he hit something while driving. The source of his transmission is incorrect, he found that transmission online from a source we never heard of, the Dealer price was $2797.95 transmission, $55.04 for fluid, $977.50 labor, and a $1200 Case core since the customers case was destroyed, total dealer price $5,030.30. Our Price quoted was $3,650.50 for a 3 year/36,000 Nationwide Warranty including the Case and all labor, fluid, and parts. Mr. Don is comparing us to Independent shops and unknown internet deals as Apples to Prunes.
We have to use the highest grade quality parts and back it up with a Nationwide Warranty 100% Parts and Labor Covered. Mr. Don was very stubborn and wanted us to install and purchase transmission from an unheard Internet Source. We do not do this as our center due to substandard quality of parts. We have to do the job right. Mr. Don insisted on doing it his way and was responsible for our Teardown and Inspection Fee; if you do the math he should have done it with us and got a better warranty and solid unit in his car. So for the difference of $350.00 he would have us do the job.  I dont go to Olive Garden and bring my own Pasta and demand them to cook it for me. Just like you dont bring your own meat to McDonalds, Sorry Mr. Don we tried to work with you but you wanted it done your own way and now youre upset about it. My Name is Ron Benedict and have been in the Auto Repair industry for over 30 Years and I like to preach quality vs cheap. We are here to serve customer with quality and warranty,  Aamco has been around for 48 Years solid and we are the Worlds Largest Transmission Specialists. Thank you, Ron
