Abad's Gym in Mesa, AZ is nothing short of a scam, a rip-off, and a joke in the Arizona Mixed Martial Arts community. "Team Arizilians" is headed by Coach "G" aka Gustavo Lindsey. He claims to be one of Arizona's top products for years, yet no one has ever heard of him? You can search on Google, which all of the credentials he claims to have would be listed, and find absolutely nothing at all. If he was as good as he says he is, wouldn't there be one article, one video, or some kind of posting about him within the past decade?
Abad's Gym says it offers Kajukenbo, Crossfit, and "professional instructing" yet in all reality it does not provide any of that. The Kajukenbo insturctor, Sibak Tracy (who is still listed on their website) left the gym months ago, therefor there is no Kaju program and there is no belt-ranked Kaju practitioner to teach it, though Coach "G" may try to claim he is one. They are also not Crossfit certified nor do they have a Crossfit instructor, thus, no Abad's Crossfit program exists.
You can see "Team Arizilians" at your local bar parking lot at UCFC events showing off whatever skill they think they have. Please, if you're interested in MMA for yourself or one of your kids, do yourself a favor and avoid Abad's Gym at all costs because your hard earned dollar will be wasted on the worst instructing in AZ you could possibly find. The owners of the gym, Brig and Carly Burton, are terrible business people. They treat employees unfairly, and are very unprofessional in the way they handle matters in and out of the gym.
Their former coaches and business partner all left Abad's Gym because Brig and Carly owe them hundreds of dollars in unpaid hours and absolutely refuse to pay it. To top it all off, they don't even have a business license to operate in the building they are in! In short, Abad's Gym promotes all these great things and promises the world for your dollar, but cannot back up any of it. They falsely advertise programs they do not offer, have instructors who don't know what they're doing, and quite honestly should not even be allowed in the local MMA scene.

There are some good points here that need to addressed:
1. Coach G has been through the CrossFit certification courses, but it's true that the gym is not yet certified as a CrossFit gym. While we still would like to become a CrossFit gym in the future, it's not our # 1 priority. We've since removed the CF name from our advertising.
2. Tracy was with the former managing partner who ran the gym and hired Coach Jeffs until she got cancer and was no longer able to stay on board. We're sad to see her go and wish her the best in the future.
With those admissions in mind, this original 'rip off report' was filed by Jeff Write an ex-employee/trainer that we had to let go for a number of reasons:
1. Incompetency - Students and parents complained about Mr. Write's coaching; specifically his inability to effectively teach and inspire students. We lost several customers because he simply didn't seem to care about the students. After 3 months with us, Coach Write had not successfully recruited or brought in a SINGLE student, and for good reason: nobody wanted to train with an incompetent, lazy trainer like Coach Write.
2. Dis-honesty - Coach Jeff’s claims that he was not paid, but he was always paid by the gym in accordance to what we agreed to. In addition, Jeffs was caught lying on his time sheets about the days and times he was supposedly in the gym training, an attempt to boost his reported number of hours in the gym to inflate his pay.
3. Stealing - Coach Jeffs still has not returned floor matts, gloves, and punching bags that he 'borrowed' from the gym over 3 months ago after being let go. We're still considering filing charges against him for theft.
4. Destruction of Property - We have evidence to suggest that after Jeffs' departure, he intentionally destroyed property that belonged to the gym, including his having user-access to and destroying the Facebook fan page that had hundreds of hours invested into it. Again, we've not yet filed charges against him for this action, but have strong evidence, based on his having admin privileges to the site, and his sour attitude that he is responsible for trying to hurt the gym's valuable goodwill.
In response to the criticisms of the gym and the coaches we have on staff - Mr. Wright, you're welcome to step into the ring with any of our coaches at any time if you think you've got something on any of them.
Our coaches - especially our head Coach Gustavo Lindsey trains with passion, heart and a sincere desire to help the students. He builds people up, whereas from our observations of you teaching and the way you've acted since you've left, it's obvious you only know how to tear people down.
We have several MMA champions fighting out of the gym who love and appreciate Coach G, the gym, and who can attest to the quality of the training. Jeff, I'd challenge you to speak with them face to face if you think they're a "joke" as you've put it.
