I am just curious becuase I didn't have that experience, and it was family friendly, pet friendly, and inexpensive which I why I chose it. Thaat really is dissapointing if it is all true, but it seems strange because the same very negative review is posted in various oddly translated versions throughout the net. For exmaple in one review it says UK Columbia instead of British Columbia. Oh well. I didn't meet the hippies so maybe that makes a difference. Hopefully it got sorted and the rest of your vacation was better. It wasn't five star but I wasn't paying for that either, it was in some ways more than I expected and some ways less - yes the water is really cold in the River especially. I would stay there again if I had my pet because there's lots of room for her to chill. Not so much for a romantic getaway.

Cathy Youlden recently ripped me off too. I stayed there a few months ago and it was the most horrible experience I had in my life. The sheets were dirty, the room smelled after dog urine, the fridge was dirty, I had fleas in my room and got bit by bed bugs all night, and there was a used feminine maxi pad with blood on it, on the bathroom floor. When I opened the toilet someone before me had a bowel movement and not flushed it. I was so disgusted I wanted to puke. When I asked for the front desk to make some changes and get the room cleaned up or get me a better room, they told me to get in line. I found the service extremely rude and unthinkable. Told them I will be looking for another place to stay. I talked to Cathy Youlden about it the next day and all she would do is run her big-fat-mouth and never let me get a word in edge wise, and denied that I had these problems with her room. Cathy Youlden was in complete denial of the horrible condition her rooms are in. She told me if I don't like it I can stay somewhere else. I told her I don't need to listen to her lecturing me and that I will be staying somewhere else. She then said she will charge me for the other 3 more days I had booked and I told her if she did I will dispute the charge with my credit card company. after one day of hell that was it for me, I found a really nice B&B to stay at and they treated me like a king. Sure enough I get back home after being on vacation and discover she charged my account $345.00 for a cleaning fee and on top of that charged me the extra 3 days for my room. I contacted my credit card company immediately and had the charges reversed. Told them I did not authorize any of the charges. I got my money credited back to my account. I am putting in a complaint on her to the BBB of Vancouver Island. Do not stay at Accommodations On Lake Cowichan Riverfront, if you do Cathy Youlden will rip you off, and scam you with your credit card. I hope you go to jail Cathy for Credit Card Fraud and burn in H*ll for what you have done to me and the others I have read about on this ripoff report site. It is also obvious that Cathy Youlden and her looser husband have been posting false reports on this site to do damage control. I am not stupid or is the public. Do not stay at Accommodations On Lake Cowichan Riverfront, your money can be spent a lot better at a Bed and Breakfast.

I cant help but wonder why someone who wished to write a review of a place they stayed at would come to rip off report to do so? It makes no sense. Cathy Youlden obviously googled herself and found these horrible reviews and decided to write in under another name to try to rectify the bad press surrounding her roach motel. This is so transparent. BOOO!!! to Cathy Youlden for yet again trying to decieve people. BOOOO

You have got to be kidding! Cathy Youlden is regarded as one of the biggest scammers in Lake Cowichan amongst the locals. She has on SEVERAL occasions charged (unauthorized, I might ad) unsuspecting patrons as much as $1000 in damage deposits. One particular instance that happened over this past summer was when a wedding party booked into Cathy Youlden's hotel. Thankfully, they were alerted by a local several weeks in advance not to stay at Accomodations on Lake Cowichan Riverfront and canceled their reservation. Much to their dismay, Cathy Youlden charged their credit card anyways stating that there was a no cancellation policy. Once again Cathy Youlden rips off an unsuspecting honest person! How does the pathetic Cathy Youlden sleep at night? She is a lair and a petty thief who commits fraud on a regular basis. When will someone step in and charge this criminal? Her standard method of operation is to preauthorize your credit card anywhere from $250 - $1000 claiming it is a damage deposit. In almost ever case she keeps the damage deposit leaving guests the option to chase her for it legally, which is highly unlikely as most are from far off places. So, Cathy has devised a very lucrative scam (damage deposit = free money) as there is a high turnover of unsuspecting people out there. THINK ABOUT IT FOLKS.... HOW MANY TIMES HAS THE BEST WESTERN OR HOLIDAY INN ASKED YOU FOR A DAMAGE DEPOSIT! NEVER!!! The hotel itself is in very poor condition! As for the new caretaker... ***PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU ARE TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN YOU MAY WANT TO DO A LITTLE RESEARCH ON HIM BEFORE YOU PLAN TO STAY AT THIS HOTEL. It is actually good to see that Cathy has tried to post some fake poorly scripted responses to this article as it keeps it in the limelight! Good job Cathy. It is good to see that despite your horrible reputation that you still consider yourself to be an individual in good standing. CATHY YOULDEN is a scammer, plain and simple. Ultimately you make the decision whether or not to stay at her crummy hotel, at least now you have been fairly warned of her underhanded dealings.

I personally stayed at Accommodations On Lake Cowichan Riverfront for several days and I had the most horrible experience of my life, I would never, ever, ever stay there again. I travel to Vancouver Island twice a year from California, I fly into Victoria, stay there, rent a car and work my up the Island. Decided last year to check out Lake Cowichan, booked a few days with Accommodations On Lake Cowichan Riverfront. I remember the hippie couple, they kept bugging me to get high and party with them. Then asked me if I would watch their kid so they can go score. I don't know what they were going to score, don't want to know. Told them I can't watch the kid, not my kid and not a good situation to put me in since I was a guest of the hotel, I am not a baby sitter. They kept trying to be friends with me, knocking on my door all the time. The hippie guy was constantly smoking dope outside and the smell was coming into my window from outside. The room was dirty, messy and when I tried to go anywhere had to deal with Cathy Youlden, saying Hey, Blah, Blah, Blah, and her big mouth. She does think she is wonderful and loves to talk at you, not converse as normal people do in conversation. She has a big mouth gossips about everyone in town and thinks nothing of it. I was not surprised to see the person from Kansas comments, I also had dirty sheets on my bed, sheets and mattress smelled after piss with yellow spots. No condom in the toilet, but makes me wonder if I should have washed the seat with bleach now before I used it. I did have fleas in my room, the fridge and stove was dirty. The place needed painting, the carpet had stains and burn marks on it. The T.V. was crap. I called the front desk and they would just send the hippie lady down and she would tell me what I see is what i get. The hippie girl then asked me if I had a few extra dollars for her to borrow till a few days later. I told her no, and I don't have much money. I was glad to get out of there when I was all done and checked out, thought the whole thing was behind me, I was wrong. Once i got back home, I discovered an extra charge for cleaning on my credit card from Accommodations On Lake Cowichan Riverfront for $500.00. I called the hotel and finally reached Cathy Youlden, she was rude to me too, told me if I want the $500.00 back I can FU*#ing sue her. I talked to my attorney and he said to have the credit card company charge it back and I did. It took a little bit and had to file report with credit card company. Seems from reading these posts I am not the only one they have done this to. Also discovered stuff missing from my bags, highly suspicious the hippies (Poppy and Logan) ripped me off for drug money. Cathy Youlden, you had no right to charge me extra money for a cleaning fee when your renting out a flea dive to people. You are a fraud artist and very sick person to attempt to rip people off after already getting scammed for staying at your dive. You lack moral and values, Shame on You Cathy, Shame on You! The water is cold for swimming, i also got caught in the current in the Cowichan River there and ended up going down river to the duck pond park, had to swim over to the beach. I almost drowned. I did not feel like I received good value for my money, I will never ever stay there again, no matter what names Cathy posts on here to try to make herself look better.

We to stayed at Accommodations of Lake Cowichan Riverfront and found it to be the best place yet. We have spent alot of the past few month in some BB's, hotels, motels as we travel with our dog and haul horses. The Youldens set us up like Kings & Queens. They supplied us with ideas, numbers/names to make arrangements for a place for the horses. Talk about going above and beyond! Thankyou for a wonderful experience. Your place is on the top of our list for a return visit. Thankyou to your helpful staff too.

We recently stayed at Accommodations on Lake Cowichan Riverfront and found it to be more than we expected...Thankyou you to all. The caretaker Greg was helpful, clean & courteous. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owners Cathy & Daryl Youlden who both went out of their way for our family making sure all our needs were met. They invited us to a bbq which we attended and had a wonderful time, sharing stories and ending the evening in a beautiful walk. We couldn't have wanted for anything more. Thankyou again for a perfect stay and sharing your little piece of heaven with our family. Looking forward to our next stay with you.

For the past five years we have been visiting Accommodations on Lake Cowichan Riverfront in the beautiful Cowichan Valley. The hotel is wonderful, and the manager, Cathy Youlden is a dear! We do not agree whosesoever with the comments from a previous guest. The place is clean and the swimming, although chilly, is great! We often swim and fish right from the wharf. We have had friends over for great campfires, and appreciate that Accommodations on Lake Cowichan Riverfront provide the beach towels, and firewood, at no extra charge. Cathy Youlden and the other staff bend over backwards to make sure our stay is nice. And we keep coming back. We are happy to write a rebuttal. Our experiences were and are excellent. (last time we stayed, we met another very nice familywe all got along very well, and both agreed to write to RipOff to let them know our opinions). If anyone wants a very nice holiday, we recommend Accommodations on Lake Cowichan Riverfront. (we will add these comments via Thomas' email as we are not really computer literate, so he will submit them for usthank you Richard)

Our family has stayed in a great place in Lake Cowichan, called Accommodations on Lake Cowichan Riverfront twice now. The service was great, the people friendly (Cathy Youlden and caretaker), and the place pristine! We were greeted with a large welcome basket in our very clean studio suite. Both times it was we received more than promised, and we expect to make it our regulating holidaying spot! When we saw what was written on the Rip Off Website, we had to say what nonsense'. Accommodations on Lake Cowichan Riverfront is a beautiful place, and the water is pristine, and great for swimming. The suites are clean, and there are certainly no dogs biting anyone. One of the staff, Cathy Youlden was very lovely and helpful. Very good value! We heartily thank Cathy Youlden and Accommodations on Lake Cowichan Riverfront The Thomas family

It did not surprise me to see this post on her for Accommodations on Lake Cowichan River Front, owned by Cathy Youlden. Oh My Gosh, you have to hear what happened to me. I come up to Canada at least once a year on vacation and used to love staying in Lake Cowichan, and seeing Vancouver Island. I love Cowichan Lake, have been thinking of buying a vacation place up there. I was not impressed one bit at all with the two hippies running the hotel for Cathy, last time I was there. The room I stayed in was a dive and smelled after dog and animal urine. When I went to use the toilet and lifted the lid up, I discovered a used condom floating around in the toilet water. I had to flush it down myself. The fridge stove and kitchen in my room was dirty, the bed appeared as if it was made quickly and not properly changed before I rented the room. I called the desk and demanded that the hippy girl (Poppy) change the bedding. She showed up with the little one breastfeeding off of her. She pulled the bedding off and there was piss stains and blood stains on the mattress. She then tried to argue with me that the sheets were changed and that the condom in the toilet is not her problem. She told me, "Probably from the people that stayed here last." I was tired, and just wanted to put my feet up and relax. I got to pick fleas off of me as I watched the television. I had to go to the Hardware store the next day and get flea spray for my room. The water was cold in the River!!!!!!! Don't try to swim there, it is also very dangerous the way the whole dock is set up. I almost drowned in the river, the current is very fast and dangerous there. The male hippy kept asking me if I had a few extra dollars for him. The guy looked like he was on drugs all the time, really tired looking, glossy, red eyes, slurred speech. The female hippy kept asking me if I would watch her kid while she and the male hippy went out. I found this odd since I didn't even really know any of them. They kept acting like I was their long lost friend. Asking me if I would like to get hooked up. I am not sure if he meant sex or drugs, I don't know? I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner lady "Cathy Youlden," after being there for a few days, I found her to be a blabber mouth, know it all, that won't even let you finish a sentence. I told her that I did not feel the rates she charges are worth it, especially considering what people are actually getting. She was a know it all, knows this, she knows that, no one is going to tell her anything, blah, blah, blah. You don't have a conversation with Cathy Youlden, you get talked at. She told me if I don't like the accommodations I can stay somewhere else, and that most the other places in town are booked up, so take it or leave it. I stayed another day and took off, stayed at a Bed and Breakfast Nearby after that. I get back home down in Kansas, and discover that my credit card I used for the room was charged an extra $245.87 for a cleaning fee. I think the hippies did it or were in on it with her. I phoned my credit card company ASAP and had them reverse the charges. I called the hotel and asked them why they charged me extra on my card and Cathy Youlden slammed the phone down in my ear. I will never stay there again, trust me, your money can be better spent somewhere else. Thanks Cathy Youlden, Poppy and Logun for Ripping Me Off!!!!!!
