I have a great suggestion to avoid this situation in the future.
Stop going there. You've had problems for six years. Why do you continue to go there?

I use advance Auto parts often. To be clear if you by a rebuilt part what you are getting is a part (say an altenator) that has been sent back to a company, tested and the needed parts such as bushes, diodes, bearing, etc. replaced. These parts are cleaned and repainted and resold. Some of these rebuilts carry a 1 Year warranty sometime less. I bought an altenator about a year ago and when I put it on it wasn't working properly (wasn't putting out enough amps) I took it back to the store and they tested it and although the volts were fine they could not test for amps under load. They didn't have any problem exchanging it for me and I went home with a different altenator. If you been having so many problems over the last 6 years stop going there and buy new parts instead of rebuilt or remanufactured parts.

CHEAP part stores do not sell used parts. What you are getting are the returned cores, and warranty replacement parts that some idiot put on the shelf. This is what you can expect when you do not open the box at the counter to verify the part is at the very least, the correct part.
