I was given an on-line quote of $228 for a small move by Advanced Moving and Storage. Because I have moved many times in my life I was expecting my move to be between $300 - 400 tops. This company said they would give me a senior discount. My quote included 2 men for 3 hours at $70 per hour and a truck.

On the day of my move 3 men came - only one spoke any English - and it was very hard for me to understand him. He barely walked in the door - said we were on the clock and had me sign and initial a dozen forms. Then he left - later I found him sleeping in the truck. The other two men did the work. They were going so slow that I tried to help them as much as possible.

When we got to my new place the 'sleeping' moving man gave me a bill for $690! I told him he must be crazy and I called the office number who set up the move for me. I spoke to Ruben - he said he would talk to the owner and have him call me. The movers - who were still on the clock became hostile and wouldn't unload the truck - and told me they wouldn't give me my things until I paid. I ended up giving them my debit card - knowing that this would make my car payment and some other bills bounce! They had me in a bind!

I never got a call from the boss - but I finally got him on the phone. He told me he would go over the paperwork and call me back the next day. He has NEVER called me back, and is screening his calls, having his staff say he isn't there.

I filed a complaint with "Call Kurtis" and was given some good advice. I filed a complaint with the PUC in San Francisco, the Dept. of Consumer Affairs, the Better Business Bureau and the State Attorney General's Office. The producer from Call Kurtis, Shawn Boyd - also told me to file a claim in small claims court - I haven't done that yet. I have had to borrow money to cover the car payment and other bills - this has been a nightmare and I'm exhausted. I don't have money to blow - and am not sure how to file in small claims court. The BBB got in touch with this mover and the mover sent me an email (he has my phone number!) telling me he was sorry that he had been out of town - and he offered to give me $85! I didn't respond to him but forwarded his email to the BBB as they asked me to do.

I've since learned that there are a lot of on-line movers that are pulling this scam - I need help.
