We used Advanced Moving and Storage (which we believe to be located in Addison, IL) THey provided us an estimate via email based on the inventory of our house. They had the most competitive bid so we chose them.

The estimator whose name i believe was Cristina, estimated our move to be 3 hours. To make a long story short, the three hours was up when we were ready to unload the truck at the new house. The movers wanted full payment+ before they unloaded anything from the truck. At that point they called the office and the office told them to collect substantially more than the estimate we were given. SUBSTANTIALLY more. At that point I asked to speak with their mgmt. to discuss. After all, they had exceeded their estimate already and I wanted to figue something out that was fair for both parties.

Cristina, who had given me the estimate said "Sir that is only an estimate and you are going to pay us or you aren't' getting your stuff" At that point we became furious. So we were at somewhat of a standoff. She told her movers to shut the door on the truck. We then spoke with the owner who said if i don't pay them the full amount including the substantial overage, they were going to close the truck door, take my stuff to their storage area, and charge me storage. Leaving me with nothing and them charging me 50%+ of what the estimate was.

We wound up paying because we needed our stuff, but by all means this is THE WORST moving company we have ever used due to their misleading business practices and UNPROFESSIONAL demeanor in dealing with their customers. BY ALL MEANS avoid this company.

This customer originally asked for a not to exceed price, it was explained to the customer at that time that no local mover in the state of Illinois could legally give them a not to exceed price for a local move, this should have been my first red flag regarding payment with this customer.... It was explained at this time to the customer that our phone estimate is as accurate as the list and discription of items to be moved that the customer tells us they are moving. It was also explained that any long carries to the truck, items not packed and ready to go upon the crews arrival would of course slow the process of the move. Suggestions were made to the customer at this time as well as to what steps they could take prior to our arrival to ensure that the move went as quick as it could. It is the policy of our company to advise all customers of our payment terms at the time that the customers reserve their move date with us. We do ask for a deposit to hold the truck, upon receipt of the deposit we send our customers a confirmation letter advising them that we have received the deposit amount and that our terms on the day of the move in cash or cashiers check upon and prior to delivery. As with most moving companies we do not accept personal checks for payment. This is explained to each and every one of our customers well in advance of the actual move day, the customers in this case were no different, they were aware of our payment terms. This particular customer had an estimate for 3 hours of labor and a one time travel charge of $110.00. The estimated amount was $440.00 that was for 3 labor hours and one travel charge. The actual move took 4.75 hours to perform ( a good 45 min of that time spent on the phone with managment trying to get us to unload without payment). This customer paid a final total of $632.50 to move his family from one location in Aurora to another in Aurora. This move went 1hour over the phone estimate and 45 min for crew to collect charges. It was at the point that I could hear the customer in the background telling one of my movers to start getting this stuff off this truck now, I don't care what your office said, I am not paying anymore then I was told it would cost...That was the point at which Christina instructed the crew to close the truck and stop unloading until payment could be secured. As we all know there are many sides and or preceptions to a story, I am happy to be able to tell our side of this story..... Thank you Christina Miranda Advanced Moving & Storage,Inc.
