This site once included countless negative reviews of this comany, but those reviews have miraculously disappeared in recent months, which just goes to show that reputation management is for sale. Even the BBB's site has been expunged of the hundreds and hundreds of complaints about this company. Ah well, we still have the new Consumer Protection agency site, for now, but given that AES's parent PHEAA is a quai-governmental agency, I wouldn't bet on that for long either. As anyone who knows AES, AES is the servicing arm for PHEAA. AES services student loans. In doing so, they lie about repayment options, tack on huge fees, charges, etc. that are not authorized, they regularly lose loan and repayment related correspondence, and they fail to timely apply payments to student borrower accounts, on such a regular basis that the obvious purpose is to cause late fees and charges to be assessed to the account. They lie to borrowers and threaten them. They refuse to provide loan related documents and correspondence related to the history of the loans, including information regarding fees, charges, payments, allocation of payments, interest rates. They fail to properly apply payoff amounts. They provide inaccurate payoff amounts. They sometimes provide accurate pay off amounts, but then charge additional fees and interest on loans even after borrowers timely pay them off immediately using the pay off amount provided to them. When they take over the servicing of loans they split them into a larger number of loans, and then apply incoming payments willy nilly and accross the loans in such a way that the principal on the loans hardly ever decreases even after years and years in repayment at relatively low variable interest rates of between 3-4%. They tack on 30-40% to the principal when they take over serving the loans, neither of which was ever authorized by the borrower. With respect to collections they harass borrowers with upwards of 30-70 calls per day (1 call per loan x 3 entities--servicer, lender, collector) using automated callying systems that call during the evenings, weekends, and holidays, even during hours when those calls cannot be returned because their offices are closed. I have experienced all of these things myself, and if you read reviews on other sites that have not already cleaned up AES' on-line eputation for them for money, you will see the same thing. Welcome back to the fray Pennsylvania Loan Sharks, AES/PHEAA. You can pay people off, but you can't hide. To the thousands frustrated with AES & PHEAA as AES & PHEAA continue to operate with zero oversight and accountability, let's start the conversation anew.
