I received a collection letter that doesn't make sense. It's for a Verizon account that I never really had. Somehow it was in my maiden name (been married nearly eight years).
The letter says I owe $129 and could settle for $50.
Oddly enough, a friend had just been describing how he had been taken by this scam, paid the $50 which he thought settled his account, and then subsequently found out from Verizon that he had been scammed, and indeed still owed his entire Verizon bill. (at least he really had an old bill.)
