A little Information on Albertsons Ethics

I was an Albertsons employee for about four and a half years. Three weeks ago I was suspended two days after calling in sick, after a bogus so called Loss Prevention Investigation (time card discrepancies minutes added up over eight month period of sixty some dollars shrink, video surveillance, bla bla bla). After the suspension I was fired. I have been a butcher for almost 20 years. I have worked for three company's during my career. I have never been fired or anything remotely close to it before Albertsons.

Here is a little information on the company and my store (#373 Bountiful UT), before you make a judgment about the above statement. I have four copies of different doctors notes I have acquired over the last four and a half years. I got the notes to excuse me from work when I was sick. I always went to the doctor if I was so sick I had to call in to work.

I also have four separate warning and or suspension notices given to me from Albertsons dated within three days of the dates on my doctors notes. Four separate times! The fifth time I was fired following the suspension (stated previously).

But Albertsons cant discriminate against you for being genuinely sick (or having benefits, making good wages, being union member, ect.). So they use other tactics and BS to discriminate and get rid of the employees they feel cost them too much. Look at the postings and replies! Very cold hearted and brutal Company.

The day after I called in sick, for example: they would write me up for coming in late on days that I came in on time (more than once), they used a print out of times I was late in the previous months as justification. Even when I had phenomena, two days after the date on my doctors note, I was given a written warning, threatening termination for being late. They did this kind of BS to me five times! All Documented.

I am just glad I keep records. I talked to two lawyers on Friday both said the same thing and offered to help (no payment unless I win). This tells me a lot! I was told discrimination cases are usually one of the hardest to prove (a lot of hearsay, testifying, ect ), Its not that often the discriminator gives you the proof and documentation you need.

I'm just so angry I have never been treated so unfair and rotten in all my life. It doesn't matter that I'm the father of two, have a disabled wife, custody of a five year old I've had since birth because he had a bad start in life. To Albertsons I was just a money problem. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do from here.But I do know I didn't deserve to be treated like this!!!

You are not allowed to be sick, or have kids that get sick, have a relative or friend die, have a father in the hospital, wife have a baby, ect.. Regardless of the circumstances, you are treated like a piece of dirt and you cost the company money. You're labeled a liability and dealt with as such.

An employee cant call in sick or there will be no one to run a department, that's how tight things are at Albertsons. If you do get sick you're a huge problem because a department cant run with no one there. Even if you are excused by a Doctor and have phenomena (for example) your still a big problem because lost sales means smaller bonuses for your bosses. Not a good position to be in. Like its our fault (the employees) the departments run with only one person (less labor=bigger bonus).

I can see my situation is not that unusual by reading all the other reports and replies that have been posted on Albertsons and how they use loss prevention as a tool to get rid of employees at will. Or cut old-timers hours back so they cant provide for their family's and are forced to leave a year or two before pension is vested, or made part time so they don't have to pay benefits, replaced with part timers with lower wages- on and on. Makes you wonder how often this happens and has happened, take an educated guess? I am afraid too. These are real people with real family's, not numbers!

I heard a lot of rumors and stories from co workers over the years, I really didn't believe them, I just assumed it was more drama than anything else. I couldn't believe a company could be that coldhearted to people who had dedicated 10,15,18+ years, built their lives and family around, either forced to leave, fired, set up and kicked to the curb with nothing and for nothing.

What a way to treat your TEAM!

What about the children, wives, homes The employees families.

Doesn't matter they cut costs, saved money, made everything more efficient? Bottom line looks better and bonuses are bigger that's what matters! Ask any employee who's been with the company a long time (that don't get the bonus), they know how it works.

Albertsons Is 100% All About The Money Period!

Dear consumers: Not only does this company not care about the morality and well being of its employee's or their families (experienced firsthand), they also do not care about you, only the money in your pocket. Why else when other companies are content with a 30% mark up over cost, they go for 60% to 90%. They are out to make as much money as possible Basically it comes down to this, all they want is to meet their percentages no matter what it takes, and get every last cent from the consumer as possible, and they don't care who they have to step on, go through, get rid of to do it. They are 100% about the money period!

This will give you an idea of how screwed up this company really is! The next time you are shopping at Albertsons, quietly ask a few of the employees where they really go to do their shopping. You will be surprised. Between the prices and everything that's been taken away the last few years. There is no loyalty what so ever. Their own people shop elsewhere, This pretty much says it all.

My husband is a meat cutter for Albertsons. He has filed several reports about his boss re-dating expired meat and other offenses and what he has recieved in return has been nothing more than intimidation tactics and having his hours cut. Please note the company made him sign a statement agreeing to never re-date meat as it is grounds for termination, but it happens every day in his store and in many others to increase profit. Needless to say i do not buy the ground beef at any store unless he is the one who grinds it! He has tried to do the right and ethical thing and rightly reports violations. The company always brushes it under the rug. They only care about the bottom line. They do not care about the consumers health or the employees safety, they only care about the bonuses and profits. Good news however, Managers will not longer be able to recieve bonuses! Instead they will be allowed to work 48 hours again rather than only 40 and only at regular pay. This is bad news for the good managers who run a clean butcher block, but for the bad unethical ones who increase profits by re-packaging expired meat, or grinding bones from the bone barrell into the ground beef (my husband has witnessed this as a common practice in some stores). The company is greedy beyond belief and unfortunately the unethical attitude seems to have taken over the entire company and fall on the little guys who are afraid to speak up for a very valid fear of sneaky retaliatory actions. Yes retaliation is illegal, intimidation is illegal, but our attourney says there is very little that you can actually do about it. The so called anonymous tip line is not anonymous at all and every time it is used the ax falls on the squeeler.
