Alexandros Of Santorini Agreed to a dollar price, then changed price to Euros which cost $430.00 more, ripoff Fira, Santorini Island Greece
Alexandros has one of the most beautiful jewelry stores in any country. We arrived on the Celebrity Cruise line and my husband and I, along with another couple, shopped in his very upscale store. We looked at a bracelet and ring. Agreed on a dollar price of $3,800. for the set.
Alexandros then brought out a credit card receipt figured in Euros. My husband pointed out that the exchange rate would make the price quite a bit higher. Alexandros assured us that the exchange rate for a credit card was different, and he would honor the price.
The credit card bill came to $4,300.00 The other couple in the store had the exact same experience. There are two times when people hate to haggle. One is in buying caskets. Another is when buying beautiful jewelry (gift from him to her).
Let every buyer beware: when buying anything in Europe, make sure you have your calculator and the exact exchange rate. Better yet, bring travelers checks or cash. Be careful about carrying cash in many places in Europe, however.
