Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

The phone rings at 8:37am and I love to mess with telemarketers (Thanks to Henry Rollins, you should look that up), so when I say hello" and hear that pause, I am on the ready.  The guy says something like "This call is recorded, and am I speaking to (mispronounces my very easy name) I tell him he may speak.  He asks again, and I say yes, you may speak.  He says his name (and his accent was so think I could not understand it, but I don't really blame him) and that he is from Allied Interstate LLC.  Anyone who knows a little about business licensing should know that almost anyone can get an "LLC" and if you don't know that, keep it in mind.  And he then says something about how he needs to verify my address.

I say, now, wait a second, I don't know where you are.  What is your location?  He fumbles; he says he needs to verify my address first.  And I said, no, that is a little creepy, isn't it?  I ask where the business address is.  He said "Ohio"  Something about how the main office is in Ohio.  Ok, fine, but what is the physical address?  He cannot give it to me, he mutters more about verifying my information, and I said, "I will go no further until I know where this company is that I am talking to."  He then says he will, but that I have to hold on so he can get it.  Really? You don't even know the address? Are you kidding me?  Nope, I said, "If you don't even know that, clearly, this is a scam."  And I hung up.

I *69 the number, and searched online about this "company" Wow.  It kills me that so many people are getting scammed by this BS.  I never give out my information over the phone because it is so easy for scammers to get too much information.  It actually seems they are looking in the phone book & calling every number.

So I called the number back.  There was no ring, but I asked the woman who answered for their physical address again.  She fumbles, asks why, I said I need the address please.  I get the supervisor, who eventually says she will give it to me.  She starts with P.O. Box, and I laughed, "There is no physical address is there?" she continued and gives me Virginia. "That's funny, the guy I talked to before said Ohio."  Then I got real with her.  I told her that she may not even know it, but the company she works for is scamming people.  I told her that if she didn't believe me, then look it up.  I wasn't even anger, I just asked her to please do more research into a company before she decides to be employed by them.  She asked if this was a bad number to call "INserts my name" I said, yeah, this is a bad number to call anyone.

My point to this is, never say "yes that is my address" or "yes that is my Social Security Number" to anyone who refuses to give you their physical address, or anyone you don't know for that matter.  The only reason I even know they are a collection agency is from searching for them online, and I know that I have no outstanding collections right now.  I do hope they don't call back, but if they do, I will not be as nice.
