Almeda University: "Experience Based Degrees" Looked and sounded legitimate online so I figured I'd give it a try. As I have a lot of work experience in different fields I thought I might as well put it to good use. Filled out application with all my information and wrote a check. Received degree in a few weeks and was pretty impressed. It was on a wooden frame suitable for hanging on a wall. Didn't really think too much about it for several years until I got an email stating I needed to get it "attested" to "equalize" the degree as the Federal Government decided these degrees were not legal. For a "fee" of $450.00 "Almeda University" would get my degree "stamped and certified" to make it verified as a "traditionally earned online based degree". They wanted me to send payment online through one of my credit cards. When I suggested using PayPal or sending me a bill they said they didn't operate that way and that's when I decided to check to see if this was above board or a scam. Guess what-SCAM. I doubt if anything can be done as these people are probably not even in the same country but if this helps other people from falling victim into their scam it will be well worth my taking the time to fill out a report.
