We hired Amanda to sit for our 3 dogs and parrot for a long weekend. We met with her and she seemed knowledgeable and good with the animals. She asked for full payment upfront ($106) and since we were on short notice, did not worry too much about this.

My husband got sick and ended up not making the trip. Since he was staying home, there was no need to have Amanda come over. We called her and asked her to set up a time when we can get our house keys and check. We repeated attempts to contact her, several times a day for 5 days. We never received a reply so we had the locks changed. She kept the money and house key, never to be seen or heard from again.

It made us think that had my husband traveled as planned, she may never have even come to care for our pets. With an insulin dependent dog who knows what could've happened over 4 days with no care. This also would have been a perfect amount of time to clean the house out of all valuables as well.

I filed a complaint with the BBB (she is not a member) and was told by the BBB that she never responded. It seems someone else filed an unanswered complaint as well, though I don't know if it was for the same thing.

This woman is making a killing with this nickel and dime scam. Not worth following up with legally since it's such a small amount.

She's a menace!

I have know Amanda a few years now and have used her to take care of my Dog. There must be some kind of miscommincation. Amanda would not take your money and not give it back. I Hope you would try to contact her again and give her the opportunity to reply.

Think before you hand out money and especially keys to your home.

First. You never hand over your house keys without getting references and doing a criminal background check if you have anything valuable in your home. Second you never pay for services up front. Third see where the check was checked if you paid by check if it hasn't been cashed put a stop payment on it. And just remember this incident for next time you can never ever trust anyone who walks into your house if you don't know them personally.
