Amegy Bank Bill Pay Rip Off Internet
In early June I used Amegy BillPay to pay medical bills. There were 4 payments (for each date of service). Two were sent to be paid on one day and the other two the next. both payments cleared my checking account. No problem or so I thought....
Then I get a "nasty-gram" on July 2nd from the company the 4 payments were sent to. they claimed the did not receive payment and I would be sent to collections if I did not pay immediately I phoned them and left a voice message with the dates the payments cleared my bank (1st week of June).
Then I went back just to make sure and checked the bill pay - yep, everything was accurate, the name, address, account number. Checked online for the checking account again, yep, right amounts, right dates.
then I clicked on a check image...
Different company, different address and appears to be a different account number.
So I phoned Amegy and was very upset, understandably so. At first the CSR said they weren't responsible if I sent the payments to the wrong company. So we went through the bill pay confirmation information and then back to my checking account and then to the check images. Silence for a few moments on the other end of the phone. Then I was assured someone would be back to me on Monday since it was over a holiday weekend. So, here it is Wednesday and no communication from Amegy. I phoned today and had to go through the entire issue all over again. Seems Amegy must be as famous for no documentation as they are for communicating to the customer.
Ultimately I was told Amegy sent a letter to the company that cashed my check inquiring about the checks. No word on how long it would be before I got my money back.
When I asked how this could happen - how could someone go in and manipulate my billpay and change things like that - there has been no explanation from Amegy.
If you are a customer of Amegy, be afraid....be VERY afraid!

It may be important to note that I complained about this bank to the corporate offices in early May and stated that I would be closing my accounts Aug 1 and moving to another bank. I wonder if this influenced someone to tamper with my account. The payee the checks were suppose to go to is a small new organization, not a large corporation.
