Deep in the fine print, the AOL contact agreement states they can only offer refunds of 90 days of your account if a complaint/notice has been made to them on said account.

What happened to me was that I cancelled my membership to AOL in 01/01 but was continually charged a montly fee. In December of 2001 when I noticed this, I made an inquiry to their billing department (after being bounced around by 4 or 5 departments). After I stated my case, they only gave me a refund for 2 bills charged to me because I was only charged twice within the 90 days when I made my complaint.

What happened to the money I was charged between 01/01 and 10/01? They told me they "couldn't do anything about it" although the rep told me they saw no activity on the account, and didn't have a cancellation in their system. Pretty convienient.

as a soon to be ex employee of AOL, because I won't mislead the Member on there account. I have to say I have noticed that AOL is misleading the members. You don't know how many Members I get calls from everyday about a billing issue. AOL response to that is to keep there account opened. I have a conscience and cannot make a member keep there account if they don't want to. I will admit that AOL is lying to there Members. AOL answer to all of this is to give the member several months of free service so taht they will forget that they have AOL and Aol makes that money no matter what. They do not take no for an answer. I have been treatened today with being fired because I will not mislead the member. I am sorry I cannot do that. I know how it feels to be mislead about things. They have given me 24 hours to start saving more accounts by all means. I will not do that. I believe AOL is running a billing scam and if everyone that has filed a complaint on this website against them, would file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, you can go to there website, then maybe there could be an investigation into this activity. Please don't let them rip you off anymore fight back. Stop them from committing anymore fraud.

It's not his fault

First of all, AOL was charging him AFTER cancelling the account. Is that the author's fault? Yeah that's right. It doesn't matter if he didn't look at his bank account for 3 years. The issue here is that AOL charged him after cancelling. Obviously the author deserves his money back because it was AOL's fault..not his. Clerical error? sure enough it's still AOL's fault. Next time, can you think before you post? Thanks.

There is such a thing as clerical error. Now Im not saying that this is ok. My question to you is why did you not look at your bank statements for 10 months. You would have known this in February had you opened it! Then you wouldnt be out 8 months billing would you? They are not your personal accountant and would assume you would have called had there been a problem. I could call up right now and say I cancelled 8 months ago I want all my credits. How can they be sure.. They have to be business smart or everyone would do that! Take responsibilty for being brain dead with your bank account! How many overdrafts I wonder did you have that year? Huh?
