I took advantage of AOL's 50-day free trial, which they claimed I could cancel at any time. After deciding that I did not want to continue the service, I called to cancel, and followed their directions.

During the first phone call, the man I spoke with refused to cancel me and instead tried to talk me into another plan. When I refused the plan, he said he wouldn't change anything that night, but would send me something in the mail.

When we received the offer in the mail, I called again to cancel, and the woman absolutely refused to cancel my service. She claimed that I had to log on and remove all of my personal financial information from the system. The notice that we'd been sent in the mail had not mentioned this, so we refused and insisted that she cancel us that night, which she doggedly refused to do.

When my husband asked to speak to the manager, she said there was no manager on the floor, and refused our request. We finally ended up hanging up, since it was clear that we would not accomplish our goal.
