I was in agreement with Brett's analysis of the issue, but when I read "just as I would not be covered because I am not on your account as well", I just had to laugh out loud. It is so true! If you're not listed as a cardholder on the account, why WOULD you be covered?

It would be common sense to anyone that if your wife is not on the card then she would not be protected by the advantages of the card. This will be true with any credit card company in this situation. It appears to me you are frustrated and need to blame someone. AMEX's contract is with you and no one else. You know this if you get your statements, as it would only list you. They did not find a loophole to get out of paying, you unfortunately did not follow the simple directions of how to be protected by the insurance. It is simple to call the company and find out what protections are available for you and what the limitations are. Again, even if you didn't read the fine print and what not, this would be simple common sense your wife will not be covered if she is not on the card, just as I would not be covered because I am not on your account as well.
