AMERICAN EXPRESS/AMERICAN EXPRESS BLUE SKY BAIT AND SWITCH ELPASO, TEXAS AND FT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA
My husband and I were both offered a "special promotion" from American Express. Open a new acct, spend 500 in the first month and "You will be eligible for 2 free airline tickets anywhere in the continental US". We applied, spent the 500 and prior to purchasing airline tickets called the customer service line. I was told to book the tix and charge them on the AMEX card and you will get a credit.
After much deliberation with Brian at AmEx, we are not getting credited the amt of the tickets. Obviously, we cancelled both accts. What a disappointment. They spent their time trying to sign us up for their other programs, but no airline tickets after having 2 accts both spend the required amount of money. Who new AmEx was so hard up for new business that they are willing to ruin their reputation?
They wouldn't pay for the tickets we bought (by following their instructions), but they were going to give us 50 dollars for the "bad information" that was given to us by their customer sales rep.
