I have been wearing the same contacts for 9 years, with only a small change in prescription. I joined the Eye Club at America's Best (Oxford Point Shopping Center 110 Lincoln Hwy, #12, Fairless Hills, PA 19030) and have been going there for the past 5 years for annual eye exams, glasses, and contacts. I have had pretty lousy customer service, but the store is convenient and I already paid for the Eye Plan, so I kept going.
Today, I wanted to re-order contact lenses. I came for my annual eye exam (my 5th at this location). My prescription had not changed. I wanted to buy my contacts online because they were less expensive than the store price. I asked for a copy of my prescription. I was told I was not allowed to have my Rx.
I was told, and I quote, it is illegal for the store to let you have your Rx to buy contacts online unless you buy a box through us and then put them on in our office and have a follow up exam one week later. What? I have been wearing the same contacts for years and years. I have re-ordered contacts at this location for at least 4 years and, according to the staff's records, I have NEVER had a follow-up visit. So, if that is the law, apparently this store is not in compliance with the law.
I assume this law( if it truly exists) was put in protect the health of client's vision. I think that it should be reported to authorities that this store is violating that law and putting the health of the client's eyes at risk. If there is no such law, and this is just a policy, then an optometrist who gives fraudulent information to patients should be barred from practice. Either way, this store has engaged in unprofessional, and possibly illegal, activity.
Further, today I was charged $35/box for Focus Monthly contact lenses, which I can purchase on Lens.com for $18.95/box. (If I were permitted to have my Rx to buy them online.) I have since cancelled the order.
Further, the staff is very slow. I have never been taken into my appointment on time. Every visit at this store has taken nearly two hours to complete (the exam itself is about 10 minutes!). There is not enough staff to help all of the clients who visit the store in a timely manner. I have ordered glasses and contacts and paid extra to have them shipped to my home; they never arrived and I had to call the store numerous times to find out that they came in. They have never called follow up when glasses/contacts have arrived. The customer service is the poorest I have experienced.
Don't go here. Don't take my word for it, Google "America's Best" and see all of the complaints that come up. I searched for some other eye glass stores in our area, and some of them had no complaints. I wish I had done more research before I committed to this place. I learned my lesson, and I am going somewhere else.
