I signed up for the 14 day free trial offer from Ancestory.com and found almost nothing useful. I cancelled the account via their web site, by email, 2 full days before the 14 day trial ended.

Considering them a reputable company, I did not worry further about it. My mistake.

I moved and had to reformat my hard drive due to problems incurred during the move causing me to lose my system.

I just found out today, many days after the trial period ended, that they have charged my debit account for the full membership, almost $100. This has caused me to be charged almost another $100 in overdrafts.

Customer service says they have no record of my cancellation. And, even cancelling now, they will not refund the money, 5 days into the fraudelent subscription.

They also assert they did not recieve email I sent today about the same problem; which they did not respond to. While I do not have the ability to get a copy of the earlier email, I certainly have a copy of that one, sent, as the first one was, directly from their site.

My confirmation number of N8253049 simply confirms that they won't charge me for an additional subscription; but they refuse to refund the one for now.

I am trapped, and they have lost my business and the business of anyone I can find to warn about this; DO NOT use their free trial; they have very limited resources for your research and you run the risk of being charged an ENORMOUS amount if you can't prove you cancelled; it is simply not worth the risk.
