For about ten years, I was a satisfied AOL customer. The trouble started when I first found out I was being incorrectly billed and I was also being given incorrect information about some of the services. Then after many other incidents in which I was given inaccurate information for which I was paying heavily, I decided to just get out of AOL together.

Then the REAL problem began: the system is designed to give you great services as long as you are giving them money. Decide to leave the system, and you are shuttled around from department to department with no resolution to both billing problems and cancellation problems. I couldn't even log onto AOL to find out what they were billing me; the only way I knew I was being billed was three identical letters that were sent to me on the same day telling me that if I changed my mind about a service I 'wanted', there would be a penalty.

At this point, I just want to pay the penalty and never have anything to do with them anymore. If the contact information they gave me is correct (this time), I should receive my final bill. I feel like I'm starring in a science fiction-outer limits film where the pathetic consumer is terrorized by the hulking mega-corporation. My roommate was billed by AOL for over two years after he'd been told his account was cancelled.
