An executive from Apple Computers contacted me last week and discussed my request to apply my $100 iTunes gift card toward the purchase of an AppleCare extended warranty and support agreement.
As a result of our discussion Apple agreed to meet me more than halfway and provided a $58 credit from the cost of my iMac purchase last year.
I therefore went ahead and purchased the AppleCare extended warranty and service plan, and am happy to report that this issue is now resolved.
I therefore am requesting to withdraw the Ripoff Report that was submitted earlier.

Too bad the Apple website about the Back-to-School program says "You can use your Back to School Gift Card to download apps, music, books, and more from the Mac App Store, the iTunes Store, the iBookstore, and the App Store." Sorry you didn't read the terms and conditions of the thing you bought.
