I purchased my first Mac desktop at a local Best Buy location since we do not have an actual Apple retail store in my area. Best Buy is an authorized retailer of Apple products and seemed very knowledgeable of their products, software and rebate website. With this said, I assumed there would be no issues making my purchase there. The sales person was very helpful at Best Buy and showed me the iWork software that I needed and told me about a $30.00 rebate offer on the product. He then asked if I needed a printer because there was a $100.00 rebate with applicable printer purchases as well. He printed off the paperwork on apple.com/rebate and gave me everything. We walked around the store and made sure to find a printer that matched up to a qualifying purchase. $1430.97 later, I left with my new Mac desktop, Cannon printer and iWork software.

I got home, set everything up and proceeded to get all rebate information ready and dropped it in the mail to get my $130.00 back ASAP.

Today, I received a very generic e-mail denying my rebate. See below

So, I immediately called the number and spoke to unhelpful customer service associates and asked for a supervisor. Jordan was my so called supervisor contact. He informed me that he would not honor these rebates because Best Buy was not an authorized reseller that qualifying for the purchase and I should have read this at the store. I told him I wouldn't have know about any of the rebates if the Apple/Best Buy sales associate had not told me about it and printed it off their website for me. I asked him if they couldn't honor this since THEIR authorized retailer must have been misinformed by SOMEONE at Apple. He said no. I asked him if he would rather me return my ENTIRE $1400 purchase than to give me the rebate? He actually said yes, then I should re-purchase at an Apple store 2 hours from my house. I actually had to laugh at all of this because it is a bit a absurd in a declining economy, that this was Apple's lack of customer service and thoughts on how to fix the situation. Jordan is NOT the only person at the Apple rebate center in a higher position, just the only one I could get to today.

    Jordan-22627 (his employee number)

So, if they don't mail me the $130.00 they owe me for a refund, I am returning everything and being done with APPLE forever.

    Thanks,

Why would anyone buy an Apple computer?  If you want the Apple operating system you have to buy an Apple computer and now you're saying you also have to buy it at an Apple store? Then they charge more than any other computer of equal performance.  Amazing!

Can you imagine what people would say if you wanted to run Windows and you'd have to buy a Microsoft computer and you'd have to buy it at a Microsoft store?

They would fry Microsoft in the industry but Apple gets away with this draconian process everyday and Apple fanatics actually buy into it.

Okay in looking at the two rebates.

The $100 rebate for the printer was ONLY for purchases made at an actual Apple Store or through Apple Online store.  They do not appear to include authorized resellers for this rebate.  This is the very first line of the terms and conditions of the rebate so it was pretty hard to miss.

Purchase an Apple computer and a qualifying printer through the U.S. Apple Online Store or Apples U.S. retail stores and receive a rebate of up to $100

If Best Buy lead you to believe that you could get that then perhaps take it up with Best Buy.

Now, for the $30 rebate that does appear to include Authorized Resellers and I based on what you wrote it does not look like they should have denied that portion.

So did you send in two separate rebates?  If so could it be a possibility that the notification was for the $100 rebate and not the $30 rebate.
