I got a water bill for $523 for 77,250 gals of water used for one month. There are no leaks under my house or in it. I normaly only use 3,000 gals a month. The meter is back to reading normal usage. The park refuses to dig up ground to the water pipes from meter to my house to find out why there was so much water used. They said that since it isn't leaking any more they don't see any need to do anything about it. They said that they didn't know it was leaking. How could they until I got an enormous bill from the water company. The water company came out and read my meter 3 times to make sure it was reading correctly. I should not have to pay this bill when the park can find out if a pipe underground was leaking and then I can send a copy of the work order and repair to the water company and not have to pay this huge bill.

So you want the Mobile Home Park to spenda fewhundred if not a thousand dollarsor moreto dig up around your space to find a "leak" that is no longer there?

Could it have been a "leak"..sure. But unless you have a leak fairy they generally don't fix themselves. So think aboutwhat you are asking. 77,250 gallons in a month is about 2500 gallons a day(over 100 Gallons anhour)if it happened over the entire month. If this happened in underground pipes it would be VERY obvious that there was a leak. Where either you or your neighbors(depending on wheretheleak was)would basically be flooded out. So you need to think about other possibilities

1)The meter went bad and was actually in error.

2)Someone hooked up to your water line and was using it on your "dime".

3)You did something like leavewater running so it just went down the drain

Of those it is probably 2 or 3. As just with the leak, a broken meter just doesn't "fix" itself. However, without other evidence or proof trying to convince them that someone stole water from you is going to be tough..if not impossible.

Do you have any relatives, friends who would be willing to dig to investigate if there is a leak? If you do and they do find a leak you can then go after the next step.
