I just took my car (2006 Lexus IS 350) into Pohanka Lexus of Chantilly, Virginia (http://www.pohankalexuschantilly.com) this week and was told that my oil pan had to be replaced. They took me out to the service floor to see what happened and the tech said that the bolt was stripped and had to be replaced. The tech actually showed me the bolt spinning in place that HE broke! They basically said that it was due to over use! I've been doing routine oil maintenance with this same service center since I bought the car in 2006. The story the service rep first gave me was that someone in a past may have cross threaded the bolt or over tightened it. When I explained that I only took my car to their center for maintenance and oil changes he said, it was from over use! He changed his story from cross threading and over tightening to over use within 1min of talking. The funny thing was, he couldn't even look me in the eyes the whole time we were talking. It was incredibly obvious that he was feeding me lies. I actually tilted my head to try to look him in his eyes, but he didn't budge. He kept staring away from me as he talked. My question is, how can doing routine oil changes be considered over use! The service rep then quoted me a price of over $600 for the oil pan and labor. ~$300 for the pan and ~$300 for labor which is ridiculous. I know I could have taken it somewhere else and gotten the work done for a lot less, but I was basically stuck with them because the bolt was stripped and could not be replaced. I will never go back to this dealer for any service ever again and will never buy a Lexus or Toyota again! I filed a report on Lexus' website about this and whether there is/will be an oil pan recall. I'm not expecting one, but the more complaints we file the more likely others will not get screwed like us.
