Art Calendar Ripoff Refused to fulfill pre-paid subscription and refused to refund balance of subscription for issues not sent Salisbury Maryland
I subscribed to the eMail version for one year of Art Calendar beginning in March 2003. It arrived for the first 8 months just fine, then I got an eMail from them in August of 2003 stating that the September issue would be late.
When I still had not received anything by November 2003, I sent Art Calendar an eMail asking about the subscription. I got no reply. I then sent another eMail - again no reply. Finally, I sent a demand for the $11 (pro-rated for the issues never sent) and stated that if I did not receive the refund, I would report them.
I then received an eMail from their attorney in Chicago stating that I would be subject to all kinds of legal action if I followed thru on my threats to post Art Calendar's action on the internet. Besides, according to Art Calendar, I didn't even have a subscription in the first place.
I send their lawyer the facts, proof that I had indeed paid for a subscription (information Art Calendar had received in all 3 of my eMails) and a demand for a refund.
After numerous back and forth eMails from the lawyer, I was told that Art Calendar would send me a refund. Several months later, when I had not yet received the refund, I contacted the lawyer once again and asked about the refund. I then received a tirade from Art Calendar full of born-again Christian rantings. Of course, no refund ever arrived.
I also contacted the Better Business Bureau in Maryland and Art Calendar told them they would send the refund (but, of course, did not).
Is $11 a lot of money? No. But it was a lot of money to me, as I am an artist and don't make a lot. Besides, it's the principle. When you pay for a subscription, you expect to at least get the issues you pay for.
Needless to say, I no longer subscribe to ANYTHING. And I have every intention of making sure that artists know about Art Calendar and don't get ripped off the way I did.
