Aspire Visa ripoff. high interest rates, annual fee added after two years of carrying the card, impossible to contact customer service Duluth, GA Duluth Georgia
Have had my Aspire visa for almost three years now.Have just recently begun to successfully start paying off my debts and this card was one of the first ones I payed off.
They say to start by paying off your cards with the highest interest rates, and this one had a rate of 31%,by far the highest of any of my cards,so bye bye Aspire.
There was also the fact that they added an $85 annual fee after I'd had the card for two years - only wish I'd payed it off before that happened.
Anyway,I payed the card off,waited for everything to go through,etc. etc. And then I called the number on my statement 1-XXX-XXX-XXXX, to cancel my account.
I know I've called that number before and talked to customer service,but now it seems that everything is automated.
I mean I tried everything - went into each menu just hoping for a human voice to come on the line. No luck. So then I went and searched the internet for an hour, read some complaints on this site. Finally ended up at the BBB site in Georgia. www.atlanta.bbb.org
They have several numbers listed for Aspire Visa.Tried a few of them and got lucky when I called 888-XXX-XXXX.
I was put through to customer service almost immediately, and the young woman that I talked too was very friendly.
Told her that I would like to close my account - no problem - there was none of the usual trying to talk you out of it. And I asked that she please send me a letter stating that the account had been closed at my request(read in a magazine that it was a good idea to do that).
So, I only just did this about an hour ago. She told me it should all go in effect within 24 hours. Guess well see. Wish me luck. I'll update and let you know what happens.
