No one should ever buy insurance through this company.

1. Sales rep asked me if I could do the application over the phone "real quick." He said "it will only take about 15-20 minutes."

It took one hour and 28 minutes in the middle of my work day. We went over and over the same questions three or four times with two different people.

They identified two pre-existing problems that they would not cover. They said they could do a rider (meaning that the contract for health insurance says that Assurant does not pay for any treatment related to those 2 problems.

I said fine I don't need it anyway. They said ok you should be good to go.

2. I told them that my current health coverage expired in 3 weeks. They said no problem they would get back to me in 7 to ten business days.

After more than 10 business days, I called them on a Saturday. They said "oh only our sales people are here, you are going to have to call back on Monday." Great so you will try to take my money today, but not try to help me today.

So I called them today. I finally get transferred to the underwriting department. The person there said oh we regret to inform you that we are denying coverage due to pre-existing condition number 2.

Guess what, I don't take medication, nor do I require treatment for either of the pre-existing conditions. So that means they must have a rule about the condition I have that says they deny you if you have it. So why would they waste my time, cause me to have a lapse in coverage by assuring me everything's ok so i didn't apply somewhere else, and tell me, oh don't worry we will just put a rider in your policy to exclude that coverage if they couldn't?

What purpose does lying to me and wasting my time serve?

So I ask the underwriting person about this. I say, so you can't just exclude it like your company said you could. And the guy says, "well you can always check back if the conditions change."

I said, "what the hell does that mean? Do you mean, if my pre-existing condition that requires no treament and no medication and has no negative effects on my health magically vanishes then you can put a rider in your policy excluding coverage and then I can get coverage?

"No," he says. He explains "I mean if they change the laws and prevent us from denying you for pre-existing conditions then you can come back."

Are they serious? I'm going to come back to you if the government forces you to not be dicks? Worst organization I have ever dealt with, and I represent criminals for a living.
