I'm beating up on the OP because they are filing a grievance against a company for their inability to thoroughly read through the contract they signed up for and act as if it's a surprise that they have to pay a $200 deductible to replace a phone that retails for $375... ;-)
It's not Asurion's fault the customer did a 'sign and drive' with their contract and didn't understand the terms.

When you sign up for Asurion, it clearly states that when replacing a smartphone, no matter what the "subsidized" cost may be, it will be a $200 deductible to replace a smartphone (other types of phones are cheaper based on it's capabilities).
A new iPhone 3GS, bought from Apple or AT&T, w/o a contract, is more than $200, in fact, it's $375 based on their "no-commitment" pricing.
You can certainly find a better deal elsewhere, but Asurion is EXTREMELY helpful if you break your brand new wiz-bang smartphone within a few months of it's release to the market, because then, it would likely cost $700+ to replace it at full retail value.
