I recently purchased an ASUS monitor through Amazon.com. one of the reasons I opted to purchase this particular printer was the offer of a $20 make-up rebate. Once I completed the purchase, I started to process my rebate request. The instructions mentioned that I needed to complete a rebate form, and return it along with the invoice and the original UPC and serial number barcodes cut from the box in which the printer was sent. It was't clear where I was to obtain the rebate form, so I called the company.

Here's where my troubles began. I had to call four times before I could get the details about where to find the required form. Each time I called, I got the all-around. My call would get forwarded to several different people and then I'd be placed on hold. After waiting several minutes, I would get disconnected. I was already getting the feeling that these hassles were designed to make me want to give up on getting the rebate.

The instructions on the rebate form stated that I should keep copies of everything just in case my originals were lost in transit. I was already getting a bad feeling about this transaction, so I made sure to make the copies. I then mailed the documents using the mailing label I was given on the bottom of the rebate form.

After several weeks, I received an email stating that my documents had not been received, and that my rebate was cancelled unless I could provide the rebate form and labels from the box. I dug out my copies of everything and sent them in. Since this had already dragged on far too long, I decided to contact Amazon to report what was going on. Amazon, without a doubt has the best customer service I've ever experienced. True to form, they immediately gave me a $20 credit on the card I used to make the purchase. Shortly after that, I got an email from AZUS stating that my rebate claim had been processed, and that I would be hearing from them soon. I let Amazon know about this, and offered to send them back their $20 if ASUS sent me a check. Amazon said not to worry about it and keep their $20 for my inconvenience.

Several more weeks passed. I then received yet another email from ASUS customer service stating that my rebate request was being denied because I could not provide the original labels that were cut from the shipping carton! I guess there was no sense in making copies since it turned out they wouldn't accept them anyway.

I can't believe a large well-known company would resort to using tactics like this! This is in no way an indictment of Amazon who has ,as always, been great.
