Apparently I am not the first one this has happened to. I am so upset that I want to tell the world about this place.
I walk into At the Beach on 61st and Memorial, to get a mystic tan that I saw they had on a commercial. I really needed a quick tan for a wedding that weekend, and I thought I could just walk in, pay for it and get sprayed then leave. OOOOH NO, I got to the counter and said what I wanted to do then the girl said oh you're new, and of course I said yes and explained all I wanted was just a mystic tan. Then the girl gets a call from her doctor b/c she's pregnant and is gone for about ten minutes, while the other two staff members were talking. One staff member said to the other, "does it cost anything to cancel your membership?" Then he responded "nope".
As I was standing there I thought crap I need to get out of here I'm going to have to sign up for a month and all I wanted was one little tan. But uncomfortably I stood there until she came back. She took me on a tour of the place explained all this stuff to me about if you sign up now you won't have to pay an enrollment fee and you can tan for 55 bucks unlimited. Then I said oh no I misunderstood I just wanted to come here once for a spray tan. Then she proceded to tell me that I CAN CANCEL 13 days before the 1st auto renewal. I thought man, i don't want to sign anything. But, I could get this spray tan in Muskogee for 35 bucks, and I'm already here I might as well pay 20 bucks more then just sign this and cancel it.
So as I was lead to believe I could cancel my contract 13 days before the 1st auto renewal, I didn't worry about a thing. Yesterday I went to cancel it exactly 13 days before and I went to the counter, asked if I made it in time to cancel (talking to a different lady) and she looked at me like I was crazy. She said you can cancel 5 days before. I was relieved then told her my name, she clicked on me on the computer and said oh your an actual member, you can't cancel this. WHAT!!!!!!?????? I can't cancel? There is no way out? This is crazy! Why in the heck would anybody want to tan for 2 years?????????
Well, she said, you can cancel if you relocate more than 25 miles away from our store. I already live more than 25 miles away from the store, but I signed the contract w/that address on it and it has to be a different address.
How dumb was I to be so distracted to not read the contract? I feel like a fool. Yet, as I read the other rip-off reports, I have no doubt that these people are trained to distract and lie. There is no way that I can prove what she said to me and made me believe, b/c I signed a binding document.
I am very upset at myself for signing something w/o reading it. All my life I was told to read the fine print. They were so nice and I felt like I could trust them, and that girl was pregnant and for some reason that made me think she could be trusted. Haha. I feel so stupid, yet I know that I was lied to.
My husband is going to Iraq and I will be moving back home, so this will get me out. However, I have to provide 3 documents that have been mailed to me w/my name on it such as water bills, doctor bills, etc. and I have to show my new address on my license AND on top of all that I have to pay 75 bucks. You better believe I will get out of this contract.
Oh they did say I could transfer this contract to someone else. HA like anybody would want this contract under their name! They'd have cancer w/in a year if they tanned everyday. THIS PLACE IS A RIP-OFF!!!!!!!
