Atomic Plumbing and Drain Company - Blind pricing scam No itemization on invoice, no clue what you'll pay until you've risked about $100 Virginia Beach Virginia
This is another company that pulls a "blind one-price" gambit. I did not purchase their services and you shouldn't either, and here is why...
You have exactly one option, as far as pricing is concerned. They call it "one-price" pricing. "One-price" is code for "We aren't going to provide you any information whatsoever about how we arrived at the price we are charging you." And they mean it. After they send over a rep to assess what the job will cost, he or she will state a price for the job, and you will then have to option to take it or leave it. If you take it, you have just committed to paying that price, regardless of how much the materials they used cost, and regardless of how much (or how little) time the job takes to do.
In my case, I needed a hot water heater. The lady I spoke to (Ms. Deanna) explained to me in no uncertain terms that if I contracted them to replace my bad hot water heater, I would never, at any point, know how much I paid for the new one. She wouldn't tell me over the phone, and she made sure I understood that it wouldn't be on the invoice. When I asked her how I'm supposed to compare prices between their units and units from other sources, she mumbled on about the warranty I'd get and how long they've been in business. So if you "take it", you could very well be taking it in the shorts.
But if you "leave it", then you're taking it in the shorts anyway, because now you owe them $95 for the assessment they did.
This company knows that most people would rather go ahead and pay more money and at least have something to show for it, than to pay $95 for nothing, so they have a strict policy against giving out any pricing information until you've committed to that assessment. If you don't believe me, please call them at (757) 464-2934 and see if you can get ANY information about ANY prices on ANY of their products or services. I'll bet you can't.
Please do not support this sinister business practice. They need to change their policy or go out of business.
