Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My husband had been an AT&T Wireless customer for a couple years. He uses his cell phone constantly in running his business. He must be able to be reached at all times.

We were planning to build a home on property that we owned, and realized that there was no cellular service at the location of our property. This would have caused a major problem, as sometimes he needs to be reached at night.

A couple of monthe before progress of building was to begin, my husband called AT&T to ask them about terminating his contract due to their lack of cellular service in the area. The representative specifically told him that since they couldn't provide the cellular service there, it would not be our responsibility, and he would NOT be charged a termination fee.

About a month later, he called back again to inquire about cancelling. He spoke to a different representative about the situation and was told the same thing. They said not to worry about terminating, since it was not his fault that they could not provide service. They said no problem, there will NOT be a termination fee. So he went ahead and cancelled.

When the final bill arrived, we found, to our surprise, a sizeable termination fee. We paid the regular monthly charge, but not the termination fee. We called the company and spoke with representatives who would not help. Then we spoke to managers, who said they couldn't do anything with the bill and that we had to just pay it. I finally spoke to a supervisor who was very rude, almost insolent, and told me that my husband was crazy and that no one would have ever told him there would not be a fee and threatened with a collection agency if we didn't pay the bill. I informed her of the dates of the calls and asked her to check their records and recordings and, of course she refused. We did not pay the fee and during the next 2 - 3 weeks received a couple threatening calls from AT&T to pay up. Since we were originally told we would not be charged a fee, we informed them that we would not pay it.

Since then, (it's been over 2 years now) we've been contacted by four or five different collections agencies. They've called and they've written several times. Each time, I tell them not to contact us again, and then they send it to another agency. On and on it goes.

We believe the AT&T tells their employees to misinform consumers so that when things like this happen, they can bully people into paying them. They are an insidious company and need to be exposed.
