I Unfortunately I decided to have Authorhouse publish my first attempt at writing. My book went on the internet just before last April. Because It was a book centered around the Bush administration and corporate America's control of the WhiteHouse. Along with their decades long attempt to destroy middleclass America. I thought the book would sell. According to my statements. Other than the books I purchased. Authorhouse hasn't sold one single copy.

After checking out the websites that my book is being sold on. I found that several had used copies of my book for sale. My book is even for sale in the United Kingdom. I'd like to add, at a retail price much higher than we agreed on. I sent an email to Authorhouse and this is how they responded. " The websites that indicate they have your book in stock and can ship within two to four days really does not have your book in stock. The websites that indicate that they have used copies of your book really do not have used copies of your book in stock. I don't know about you, but either all these websites are lying, or Authorhouse is pocketing my royalties. I've read several other complaints from authors who have experienced the same situation with this publisher.

So, what should I believe? Are all the websites marketing my book lying? Are all the authors lying, or is it Authorhouse??? One complaint mentioned something I found very interesting. If all these books are not selling. How is it that Authorhouse has the millions of dollars necessary to buy up other publishing houses and expand as rapidly as they have? I believe it's time government take a close look at Authorhouse. The IRS should also be interested because companies like Authorhouse can write off so much more than the average taxpayer. Because of the years that Authorhouse has apparently been doing this. The Federal government stands to lose millions in tax revenue.

By the way, if there's any lawyers reading this. I want them to know that I would gladly accept the chance of joining in a class action suit.

It's possible that Amazon.com does have copies of your book your book in stock -- you would have to contact them for confirmation of their stock. As a rule, AuthorHouse books are printed on demand. AuthorHouse makes all of its titles available for purchase through Amazon and other online book stores as a service to our authors. If you'd like us to make your book unavailable through Amazon, please contact us. We have no control of used books sold through the Amazon marketplace, much the same as used books that readers would sell through eBay. AuthorHouse could certainly send you a sales/royalties report if you contact AuthorHouse with your name and the title of your book. Please feel free to contact me directly if you'd like at kgray at authorhouse dot com and reference this report. I will see to it that we forward you a report. AuthorHouse has published and brougtht to market more than 60,000 U.S. book titles since its founding in 1997 and we have tens of thousands of satisfied authors who've sidestepped the rejection og traditional publishing and finally published their books. Self publishing with AuthorHouse allows authors to achieve success based on their publishing goals, whether it be to publish a memoir for family and friends or to write the great American novel. I wish you the best of luck and success in getting your book to readers! Best, Kevin A. Gray PR Manager AuthorHouse

AuthorHouse.com Promotions: "Where's the money?"

#3Consumer Comment

I have a good friend who has written a book and used AuthorHouse.com to publish and to PROMOTE it. At this point, he does not yet know for certain if he is being ripped off. It looks like it. It feels like it. It smells like it. He has spent thousands of dollars on various promotions. He took out a Small Business Administration Loan to get the money to invest in these promotions. The total invested so far is: OVER $15,000.00. (Nearly 20 Thosand.) Which DOES include: 1) Radio and Televison Interviewers Report (RTIR) (through Authorhouse) 2) Mass E-Mail to One Million E-Mails. (through Authorhouse) 3) Advertisement in the New York Times (through Authorhouse) 4) Hired a Publicist (through Authorhouse) ALL OF THE ABOVE was thorugh AuthorHouse.com He just got his June 2009 Royalty Check. His total Royalty: (UNDER) $3.00! Yes folks, you read that correctly! Under three dollars! Authorhouse.com reports he sold ONE Book! [Check was received on June 1st, 2009] Same results came from the previous quarter. One book sold. Small Royalty check. Another thing. When he logged in to check on Books Sold in the Author section, it reported a total of ZERO Books Sold! So in both cases, he was surporised to get a check at all. But even if only two books were sold, neither one of them showed in the online Book Author Sales Report, also at AuthorHouse.com . Yet he HAS invested literally THOUSANDS of DOLLARS to PROMOTE his book. There seems to be NO mechanism in place to AUDIT the Authorhouse.com "results." There is NO accountability to Authors! They CAN and COULD rob you blind, and it takes such a long time to discover that they did. But again, he does not yet truly know if they have stolen his Royalties. Strongly suspects, at this point. How can you invest so much, do so much, and get nothing? It is indeed, an Unsolved Mystery! A Lawsuit would be needed to get the AUDIT, and Lawsuits are even more expensive, as it would need to be through Federal Court. However, he has just purchased a course from a Lawyer that instructs on how to do a Lawsuit pro-se. Which of course means, filing a lawsuit without a Lawyer. He qualifies to get his Lawsuit without paying any of the filing fees. He is looking seriously at doing this. He has already spoken with several Lawyers, all suggesting grounds and damages are probably there. But even with contingency pay outs, there are upfront costs. He may do a class action -- on his own. If he finds he needs to do this, he will not lose. If he does this "Pro Se," he is looking at filing and serving later it this year. If it happens, due to the necessity of gaining access to their internal documents about Actual Numbers of Books Sold and Royalty Checks, he will issue a Major Press Release, and you will hear about it. Plus he will do a follow up and Post about here to the Rip Off Report! I hope for Authorhouse.com's sake that they are not fudging other peoples money. What do you think? If you were looking around today for self publishing services, would this Report be encouraging or discouraging towards you saying "Yes." to AuthorHouse.com ? Or, would you look elsewhere?

When you say "AuthorHouse has not sold one copy of my book," you're implying that AuthorHouse promised to promote or market your book. Unless you have purchased their promotional tools, they do not agree to help you sell or promote your book in any way. This is a fact, which you can confirm with any of the websites' customer service lines that are displaying your book as "used": for whatever reason, certain retail websites automatically display that they have new materials available as used. It's a default on their websites, which creates unwanted and unnecessary hassle and confusion like this. In some cases, authors whose books have even been canceled will still show as available on these websites as "used". Of course, if you actually attempt to plug in credit card information and place an order for these books, you'll receive an error message stating it's out of stock. However, at a glance, it is very misleading and confusing. As far as AuthorHouse "pocketing royalties", as you mentioned, you're not the first to make this claim. As such, I can only assume official complaints and investigations have been made regarding these claims. If any of them were valid, you would have heard about it on the news by now. Yes, AuthorHouse expands and purchases other publishers. The money they acquire to do this comes from publishing contracts, marketing kits, add-ons to the contracts, production fees (corrections, design changes, etc.) and promotional items from the several brands they own. If you are concerned that your book isn't selling, I suggest stepping up your marketing game, as AuthorHouse will not do this for you. If you're concerned about the "used" copies of your book, contact the websites displaying that information. If you don't believe AuthorHouse about the number of sales you've made, request a "books printed report" which comes directly from the distributor, which will accurately list every book sold. If you're right, AuthorHouse will compensate you.

i also did business with authorhouse, and yes they are lazy and out right wrong when it comes to dealing paying authors. i have a book on the market with them at this moment THE COLOR OF LOVE, i know for a fact that i have sold at least 100 books, but for some reason i keep getting checks in the mail for $4.oo. i will not take my book off of their site, even if i'm getting ripped off. as long as my book is out there, my name grows as a writer. i started my own publishing company WALLACE PUBLISHING LLC, just so i could put out my own books and maybe one day i can help new authors get published without leaving a bad taste in their mouths. if i could do it all again i would bypass authorhouse. they are crooks. i wish all you luck, god bless and happy writing.
