I went to AutoZone to get the oil changed in my car, and it didn't take them long to do that and rotate the tires. I took my car to my mechanic a few days later because there was a loud clicking sound in the engine. It was the lifters. He went to check the oil and said, "there's no oil in here. that's your problem." I told him I just got it changed, and he said, "They must have forgotten to PUT OIL BACK IN IT!" How can you forget the oil during an oil change?

Spring,

Possible Confusion of the Area

#2General Comment

Mon, April 29, 2013

Many people have suggested that the OP may be confused about the Rayford/Sawdust area. I would have to agree with this and provide this information as I actually live on Rayford Road in Spring, TX. (The OP states The Woodlands, both that and Oak Ridge North are acceptable according to the Post Office but Spring is usually used in addresses as seen in previous posts).

1) Rayford and Sawdust are not the same road. The road name changes at the intersection to the highway (I-45) where westbound is called Sawdust Road and eastbound is called Rayford Road. Bing, Google etc will confirm this. And I promise that no one that actually lives on either Rayford or Sawdust calls in Rayford-Sawdust. This is, however, the name of the exit on I-45. Lending to the idea that the OP is not from this direct area.

2) Riley's Automotive is across the street from Autozone on Rayford Road. And there are several places, including a Jiffy Lube on Sawdust Rd on the other side of the interstate.

3) I frequent this AutoZone do get supplies for my own oil change. They do not offer this service at all. I have seen many people work on their cars in the lot, maybe a customer offered to do the oil change? I'd doubt it though.

Due to these reasons, I believe that it was a case of mistaken identity as to the facility that performed the oil change.

First of all, an engine run without oil would start making rod and main bearingknocking noiseswithin a few seconds. If theengine was't turned off immediately, the hydraulic lifters would go dry within no more than one minute which would cause the valves to not open. The engine would then die. That being the case, how could this vehicle have been driven for three days? If the drain plug wasn't leaking, and the oil filter was tight and not leaking, then somebody is lying.

Hello,

as most people here have stated, your report is incorrect. None of the over 4000 AutoZones in the united states have the facilities to perform any work beyond changing a battery. If we even tried to perform an oil change in the parking lot at the AutoZone I work at, the store manager would have my behind. If you aren't man enough to change your own oil, at least be man enough to admit you said the wrong name.

I firmly believe the OP is at very least, CONFUSED. NO Auto Zone has oil change facilities. as previously indicated. You can call the store where the OP claimed to have gone and got oil changed. Here is the info: 326 Rayford Rd. Spring, TX 77386 (281) 298-8222 Auto Zone provides a reciept for every purchase, so I wonder why the OP does not post the reciept here for all of us to see that indicates an oil change was purchased. The OP is probably just confused maybe because an oil change facility or mom and pop repair shop right next door, etc, and thinks it is owned by Auto Zone. However, it is nice to actually have, and post all of the FACTS when making a RIP OFF report.

First , the individual may have purchased the oil from Autozone. Autozone is a Parts supplier and does not do oil changes. yes they may put a battery or bulbs or wipers on but that is it. and that is all depending on the vehicle and time and amount of employee's in store.

1st, Auto Zone is a DIY company, there are no service bays, no way to do tires. If anything at all i could understand a employee doing the service after he/she is off work. If no oil was added you would have known asap. Your lifters aren't just going to start ticking days later cause of no oil. Your motor would have seized up soon after starting. You Probably went to Pep Boys, and being a former worker i could understand that problem, cause from working in the shop i can tell you one thing. Shady work is always done.

This report is simply false information. I know this for a fact, Autozone DOES NOT do the actual oil changes, the person that did your oil change was probably one of the shadetrees that work outside the building. Those people contrary to popular belief are not employees of autozone, they're just people out there trying to make their own money.

Im an ex employee no oil changes are done at auto zone. My location use to encourage battery installation . But i have seen a few employees put batteries in wrong, but nothing major problem wise. I don't see how you could be fired for something your manager tells you to do but never was trained for and is not on the application.Nor has the customer signed anything, as far as liability, warranty's etc

To clarify the services Autozoners are allowed to preform OBDII Engine Diagnostics (Autozone is only allowed to read the check engine light and cannot clear your light) Oil Recycling Battery/Alternator/Starter testing Battery Charging I have been told some stores have the ability to test relays and coils although none of my surrounding stores have equipment to do so. Autozoners DO NOT have to put on wiper blades, but typically do, in large part because Advance does. Autozoners are NOT supposed to install batteries, we sometimes do but only to be helpful. I have seen employees have to clock out before helping a customer install parts (so we're not getting paid for it and to help further absolve Autozone from any responsibility) and have seen employees fired. Autozoners also do not (again atleast have to) install bulbs, wheel covers, recharge A/Cs, or check/add engine oil and transmission fluid, or add any other fluid. If they do they do it out of their own kindness and risk. Other districts/regions maybe different but in my area installing parts with the exception of wipers is HIGHLY discouraged. Oh and to reiterate the point, Autozone does not change oil or touch tires, we're a parts store.

Obviously this person is mistaken. I live in San Antonio, Texas and asked my local Auto Zones if there were any stores in the country that perform these services? They said absolutely not. They are neither equipped or insured to provide these services. Oh, bye the way. I also agree with the "moron" statement being out of line. This person obviously has a problem other than automotive.

Ripley's is directly across from Auto Zone, they perform tire rotations. The Auto Zone building has no lifts, has no bays, has no facilities whatsoever to do tire work nor oil changes. Auto Zone employees are discouraged from performing complex work on vehicles at the store. The services provided are: Battery installation (except certain models with the battery under the back seat or beneath the bumper cover) Battery/Charging system test "Check Engine Light" ECM code retrieval (except California) Wiper replacement, and bulb replacement (if possible without "special" tools) I called this store before rebuttal to notify of this rip-off report and to verify that there was not some local promotion alongside another outfit that may make one think Auto Zone did the work. There was none. I personally feel bad when one has a vehicular problem, but blame should be directed correctly.

I am an employee of this company, where I post from is irrelevant. Rainbow Car Wash/Pennzoil is an oil change facility on Sawdust Rd. in your area, could you be mistaken? There are numerous facilities on the road you mention. The harshness in your reply is quite out of place. Flaming by the original poster contradicts the validity of the subject. The District Manager in the area has been notified as well as the Store Manager of the location you accuse in your original post.

You can say rayford, you can say sawdust. Either way, they screwed up, and yes, they do oil changes. If they told you they don't, they lied to you.

that's impossible. because if there was no oil in the car it wouldn't have taken 3 days for the engine to seize and die. you most likely had oil in it, but there had to have been a leak somewhere. some of the reports on here for other oil change places talk about the oil filter not being tightened all the way, or even the oil plug not being tightened or stripped. it had to be something like that. no way you would run 3 days with no oil. sorry..
