On Friday, November 22, I took my vehicle to the Auto Tire location at 11202 Manchester Road, Kirkwood, Missouri. This location has serviced my vehicle several times in the past, including the most previous time, when I purchased four new tires.

Because my Jeep Wrangler has larger wheels and tires, each wheel possesses a lug lock so as to prevent theft. The mechanics at the Auto Tire location were familiar with this, as they had used my lug lock key to replace my tires just a few months prior.

On November 22, I was using the Oil Change PLUS coupon, which included an oil and filter change, as well as a 4-tire rotation. However, approximately an hour after dropping off my vehicle, the location manager called to inform me that the mechanic working on my vehicle had broken off the lug lock key in the lug lock on one of the wheels (please see attached pictures), making it impossible to remove the lock, and therefore also impossible to remove the wheel and tire itself. (This was on the first wheel, so none of the other tires had been removed from the vehicle yet).

Now, in order to get the tire and wheel off of my vehicle, it would be likely be necessary to break the bolt that attaches the wheel to the axle - thereby also possibly damaging my wheel - and costing me a great deal more money for parts and labor in the process. If this was not done, it could also cause me several other problems as well, including the inability to get any of the other wheels and tires off the vehicle if I encountered a flat tire.

At that point, I informed the location manager not to proceed with the tire rotation, as it would entail a great deal more work. However, I am very unsatisfied with this situation for several reasons.

First, my tires still need to be rotated. Second, my lug lock key set is now broken and completely unusable. Third, I am unable to remove any of my wheels - including my spare - should I encounter a flat tire - or even need to rotate my tires.

All of this because a mechanic at Auto Tire broke my equipment. And, on top of everything else, Auto Tire still charged me $29.60 for the oil change "deal" (and for the tire rotation that never happened)!

Here is what the "simple" tire rotation is now likely to cost me (please see attached items):

·         $81.10 for a new Lock Set

·         $21.99 for another tire rotation appointment (although that is not likely to happen at Auto Tire)

·         $289.00 for a new matching wheel (if needed)

·         Plus, the additional cost of the labor for a mechanic to actually get the lug with the broken key off my wheel

Not to mention the time and the inconvenience that now needs to be factored in for something that should have all been taken care of last week - but needs to be taken care of very soon, as I'm extremely concerned about getting a flat tire and not being able to fix it.
