After nearly a year in court avis finally dropped the charges. they got their car back months and months ago, months before they dropped the charges. the police had stopped the car for violations and the driver of the car, a known car felon was incarcerated. false arrest and a year in court and legal fees for renting a car from avis car rental LESS THAN A BLOCK AWAY. WHY DIDN'T THEY WALK ACROSS THE STREET AND TALK TO ME. MAYBE BECAUSE THEY ARE NEGLIGENT AND THEY'RE CAMERAS WHICH SUPPOSEDLY PROTECT THEIR PROPERTY AND CUSTOMERS WERE ALL DUMMIES, FAKES. PHONY CAMERAS AVIS ADMITTED IN COURT ! WHY DON'T THEY PUT LOJAC ON THEIR CARS, YOU ARE PAYING HIGHER INSURANCE FOR THEIR STOLEN CARS ! HOW MANY CARS DO THEY HAVE STOLEN A YEAR ? MILLIONS !! MILLIONS, WORLD WIDE ? AND CONSUMERS ARE PAYING THE INSURANCE BILL !!

There are still some things about your story that don't make sense. Were you given a receipt when you turned over the vehicle that showed date and time the vehicle was returned? If the vehicle was recovered with no damage, why were you arrested? What charges did Avis have you arrested on? Why is it a criminal matter instead of a civil matter? Avis may or may not had a legitimate complaint to the police to have you arrested. Hard to tell for your side of the story. Mostly curious at this point. Good luck with your court case. Hopefully it can be worked out for the best for both you and Avis.

The lot and office has signs all around it saying this lot is protected by surveilance cameras 24 hours a day !! is this just a ruse or an outright lie? as a customer i believed them. when an ATTENDANT is able TO OPEN AND CLOSE SECURITY GATES AT WILL SO EASILY at 7:00 pm ,when other customers are returning items , when this is center city philly and there are supposedly SECURITY CAMERAS all around , and it is a huge company that you have rented from , and other companies allow you just to leave cars ,no i did not think this was an unreasonable or uncommon act.business requires a bit of trust.they, the police recovered the car weeks later undamaged with another person driving it.why did avis wait until january 15th to even REPORT the car STOLEN ?

However, you handed the vehicle over some unknown person after the office was closed. If you lived right across the street why didn't you return with the vehicle the next morning and turn it in to the office personel? Why didn't you return when you arrived home if the office was still open? Opps, sorry, it was incovenient for you. Did this unknown person give you a receipt showing the time and date you returned the vehicle? Did you have any kind of insurance that would cover theft (your own auto insurance or something from Avis)? Especially since you were to be traveling out of state. Did you report the theft to the police or did you expect Avis to take care of it. You were reponsible for the vehicle until Wednesday morning. You irresponsibly handed it over to just anybody standing in the parking lot. Avis seems to have been justified in having you arrested. It still amazes me. I know several people who are well educated and whom I consider very intelligent (more so then me) yet seem to have not one ounce of common sense.
