Avis in Tampa Florida charged us 94 dollars a day for an economy car that was advertised at a much lower price.
They eventually charge us 262.00 for 3 days, without insurance! Constant time delays. Impossible to reach on the phone.
Extremely bad customer service. The contract agreed to was not implemented. "Our policy etc , etc."
Never again.

You say you returned the car at 10AM and were charged for the whole day and that you may have returned the car at midnight. Well what time did you rent the car? Because car rentals are on a 24 Hour "Day". That is 10AM Thurs to 10AM Friday is ONE Day. They will prorate a "daily" rate if you have it a few extra hours but it is such that after 2-4 hours it is just cheaper to be charged for the whole day.
Next you complain about the Extra Driver Fee. Well when you did the original reservation did it include an extra driver? Because the extra driver is OPTIONAL if the fee was too much you had the option to just go with the one driver. Also, what were these "extra" fees. Because every car rental has extra fees and taxes that are added to the cost of the rental. Because these are fees and taxes from the government agencies or places such as the airport they are universal and would apply to every rental agency.

We contacted 2 Avis Customer service reps, the second a supervisor. She agreed to readjust the invoice to the original price and terms. However the extra fees that Avis charges (50.00 for second driver) and a multitude of other fees are excessive and still put a big hole in our wallet. My real beef is not with the employees who do try to do their job, but with Avis corporate who's policies are set up in hidden contract jargon to cheat you out of every farthing they can grab. The worst of these is returning the car as due on time and they charge you for that day! This is plain illegal and needs to be addressed. We returned the car at 10:00 Friday morning and were charged for the whole day. We may as well have brought it in at midnight. What a bunch. Business in this country is going down the tubes because of this kind of corporate cheating of the American consumer when they are the most vulnerable.
