My name is Candice and I live in Trinidad and Tobago. In January 2014 I started my search for a bridal outfit for my Indian wedding which was scheduled for August 30. By nature I am very meticulous and I like being prepared and rather have things organized much earlier as opposed to last minute and my wedding was no exception. I found a particular bridal outfit online (attached) which I fell in love with and started searching for a supplier that would be able to provide it within my budget and timeframe.
I found several suppliers and made several lengthy and very expensive long distance phone calls to Pakistan and received a range of prices and delivery dates. I began correspondence with Azmeh Ahmed on March 23 whom I found on a Facebook page with very impressive reviews. At the end of the first phone conversation she confirmed that:
1. The total price (including shipping) was USD$2,000
2. A sample would be dispatched immediately upon receipt of my (75%) deposit of USD$1,500
3. I would be provided regularly with pictures of updates and progress until completion
4. That the completed outfit would need to meet my approval
5. That that the final payment of USD$500 would need to be sent upon completion of the outfit
6.That the completed outfit would reach me at June 30th 2014 AT LATEST.
I decided that the page appeared legit and the reviews were impressive and that being a woman she would be able to relate to my needs as a bride since I repeatedly explained to her how important it was to receive this by the date she provided which still seemed late for me but I accepted since she explained it was custom made and hand beading was a very tedious task which could not be rushed.
On her page, there was a comment on the picture where she advised that interested persons can contact her for closeups or more detailed pictures of this particular outfit which I repeatedly requested and never received. This should have been a sign but being a star struck bride and wanting to look my best I put all doubts out of my mind and on the fateful day of April 2nd I transferred USD$1,500 to Azmeh and she confirmed receiving it on April 4th.
I repeatedly followed up requesting information regarding the sample as well as a general timeline which again I never received. A month after I sent the deposit to her I again e-mailed her reminding her that I had not received my sample or any update and that I was concerned she would not meet the deadline and I requested again a timeline or cancellation policy so that I could place my order with a more reliable supplier.
On May 7 she finally replied to say that I would receive the sample in the coming week. I did not receive this until May 29th while she continued to assure me that my order would be ready before June 30. On June 11 I e-mailed her again to request updates and I received no response, I wearily requested an update again on June 14th. Eventually she replied stating that there was a delay and I would receive my bridal attire by mid July. At mid July I had to again initiate correspondence requesting a progress report.
She replied to say that she would be sending me pictures the day after with the completed outfit after Eid. There were many promotions on her page for Eid, many new outfits she completed with new reviews on her page, all work started and completed long after my order was placed and while I was tirelessly trying to get an update on my bridal attire. On July 17 I contacted the Consumer Police of Pakistan, a non profit organization that stated they would intervene and assist me in my plight.
Mr. Zayeer Khan of the Consumer Police did in fact send Azmeh several emails and gave her deadlines in an attempt to help me. On July 18th she forwarded me some pictures which showed that my bridal outfit was nowhere near to completion and I was extremely upset! Eid was on Tuesday 29th July. By August 7th, 3 weeks before my wedding I was absolutely out of my mind worrying that I would not receive my outfit. I had already purchase everything else and secured all of my other vendors and everything else was perfect but I did not have my custom made bridal ordered since April 4th!
At this point I demanded that my outfit be completed by August 13th, that the remaining USD$500 be forfeited, that the outfit be overnighted to me and that she absorb any customs duty and vat since I had initially arranged for this to be shipped to the USA and for my aunt to bring this outfit to Trinidad for me to avoid these costs.
On Monday August 18, 2 weeks before my wedding and 2 months later than our agreement she sent me pictures which while similar to the outfit I ordered was not an exact replica as promised. She defended herself by saying that the original picture displayed an ill fitting bodice and then demanded that I wire the remaining USD$500 so that she could ship it to me. She had breached our agreement so many times and caused me so much distress then produced an item which was not what I had ordered and was insisting that I send more money to receive it. So she would have severely and consistently inconvenienced me at absolutely no cost to herself, so selfish is this supplier, showing absolutely no remorse for what she had done.
In a desperate attempt to get my outfit on time I messaged a couple of her friends on her page and told them of my situation trying to get them to reason with her so that I would receive my outfit. It may seem immature but as a bride without her wedding dress two weeks before her wedding after she transferred USD $1,500 to someone halfway around the world you cannot begin to imagine what I was going through.
Please see attached images of what she claims to be an exact replica. Needless to say after how unreliable she was and after how much distress I endured I was devastated. I had to spend twice as much locally for a substitute bridal outfit the week before my wedding. In her attempt to not have matters brought against her by the Consumer Police, this woman has advised them that I threatened her life to send the mafia for her. So pathetic and low she is. She has kept my money and it is not fair or right since she defaulted on our agreement regardless of the number of chances I gave her to make things right. I can send you all the correspondence so that you may be able to draw your own conclusions.
I am finally settled into my new life after my wedding and honeymoon and after changing residences to move from my parents home to my matrimonial one and I am sending this to you in the event that you can direct me to someone who might be able to help me to retrieve my hard earned money and also so that you might publish this to warn others so that no one else would have to endure the torment that I had to. I have requested that she sell it and return my money to me. She has not contacted me or returned my money to date.
I expect she would have loyal and faithful clients who claim to receive outfits in short periods of time but this was certainly not my experience. I have done business with suppliers in various parts of the world and never have I been defrauded or disrespected by any of them except this one. I will make available whatever information you need. Also if there is any blog or any page that I should post this experience to I am willing to do that as well. She should not be allowed to treat customers like this. Please find link to her Facebook page below. I thank you in advance for any support or assistance you may be able to render.
