On April 3, 2009, my fiance and I went into Bangor Car Care looking for a newer minivan. We had previously purchased our 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport there back in February of 2007. We still had about 8 or 9 months in payments left on that van. We wanted to trade that van in. We ended up purchasing a 2004 Chevrolet Venture Warner Brothers Edition that we fell in love with after taking it for a long test drive. When we got back from the test drive, we went into the office at Bangor Car Care and started doing the paperwork. They got right on the phone and called the finance company of the car we were trading in (Credit Acceptance Corp.) and got the payoff amount that we needed to pay off our Dodge Grand Caravan, which was just a little over $3000. Glenn Geiser told us that they would take our Dodge as a trade in and send the payoff to Credit Acceptance. In addition, we gave them a down payment of $1000. We also had our new Chevy Venture financed through Credit Acceptance.

Fast forward to 4 weeks ago (the last week of May), we received a letter in the mail from Credit Acceptance saying that the loan for our old Dodge Grand Caravan was 2 months in default. We knew this couldn't be possible because Bangor Car Care was supposed to have sent them the payoff when we traded it in. I got right on the phone and called CAC, only to be told that they never received a payoff from Bangor Car Care and they didn't even have any record of us trading that vehicle in 2 months prior. I then called Bangor Car Care and spoke with Glenn directly. He remembered who we were and even remembered the payoff amount for our old van. He told me that he would call CAC and get this taken care of immediately and that we had nothing to worry about. We were glad it was being taken care of and pretty much forgot about it...until yesterday, which was June 15th, three weeks later, when both my fiance and I got email alerts from Experien that an account on our credit files had been changed. We logged into the Experien web site to check our credit reports and the old car loan from our old Dodge was showing up as negative for being in default!!! I called CAC right away and they STILL had not received the payoff from Bangor Car Care! I then started calling Bangor Car Care and had to leave multiple messages and no one has ever called me back. We have contacted the attorney for the state of Maine Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection Department of Professional and Financial Regulation as well as the attorney general's office and they both said that they have had multiple, multiple complaints about Bangor Car Care. The attorney has sent a certified letter to Glenn Geiser at Bangor Car Care giving him exactly one week to take care of this or else they will pull their operating license, which would put these scam artists out of business.

Also, we are now having problems with our new van shaking every time we make right turns, which is probably the wheel bearing, which Bangor Car Care supposedly replaced a week after we bought the car, but now it is happening again and Scott from the service department was quite rude and said there was nothing he can do. The attorney general's office was made aware of this just about an hour ago and they are going to investigate. They were not surprised as they have had so many similar complaints about this rip off dealership.

It really gets my goat reading all the reports here. It has been my experience that business people live in their own moral universe. It is measured by only money and a sense of entitlement. That common values only matter when it comes to their own children. No one else matters.

All the anguish and pain reported here is terrible but I'm sorry to say that it is just the way things are.  It is the nature of any business person to only pay their employees the least they can get away with.  To provide the least benefits, because the whole idea is to maximize their profit. Because somehow they deserve and are entitled. The common person is supposed to be as sophisticated and greedy as themselves.

Somehow the American business person gets glorified and we base our system on the free market. Never mind the consumers and all the lose and suffering that the system allows.

Maine should have a law like Massachusetts. If your car can't pass inspection, the deal is off. You get your money back. I understand that Bangor Car Care can somehow put an inspection sticker on any piece of junk.

But wouldn't it be a good thing if you could take the vehicle for independent inspection and if it did not pass be able to back out?

These people that respond with cold comments. They sound like car salesman. Maybe carnival barkers. I would not trust them, because they do not sound like they understand the concept of expected honestly and fair play.
