I'm in agreement with Jose. If a payment is made on the payment due date, it should be honored--without late fees. Yes, it's probably good practice to pay bills well in advance, but if that is not possible, a consumer should get credit for paying a bill on time, even if it is on the payment due date. The alleged benefit of online banking and bill pay is convenience for the customer and less cost for the bank. Moreover, other consumer-facing online businesses accept and process online payments immediately. Why can't B of A do that? (FYI, B of A accepts pay-by-phone payments, which are posted same day of transaction. There is a fee for this, as you might expect.) I'm sure that Bank of America has the technology to make online bill pay work. What's missing is the will to do it, as well as the best interests of the customer in mind. Bank of America profits handsomely from late fees, and they have created situations to make the customer seem "late" when, in fact, the customer paid on time.

This is for Anita and Cory, Anita, thanks for the advice, but I never posted anything to do with problems making payments. Cory, I never said anything about making payments on the due date. I suggest YOU re-read the post. Paying any bill on the due date is a bad idea. >>> Hey Steve, you can visit any Bank of America branch and pay your bill there, even on the due date, and is posted on your credit card account right a way. So, you don't have to pay any fees online. Good Luck! :) Anita - Marblehaed, Massachusetts U.S.A. Update Submitted by the original author Submitted: 4/25/2007 2:06:26 PM Modified: 4/25/2007 5:04:38 PM You CAN NOT make an Online payment ON the DUE date Steve, Please go back and READ my post. The ONLINE system will NOT let you pay on the due date unless you pay them $12 for the "privilege" of paying on the due date. Does this make sense to you? I am sure that must be written somewhere in small letters, but this is clearly a change of strategy since MBNA used to let me pay on the due date. Cory, Yes, it is kind of on the gray area, but I believe it is unethical to try to take advantage of clients by using that gray area. I am sure that I am not the only one that has encountered this problem, since the service representatives were well prepared to answer anything I said. I might go back to the user agreement, wherever it is and try to read their "definition" of due date. Thanks Jose - Tampa, Florida U.S.A. >>>

After reading this report. I pay ALL of my bills, including credit cards, cell phone, telephone, cable, mortgage, elec....on the due date, online, using my account. I've never been charged a fee to do so, neither have I ever had a late fee. It's always been my understanding that as long as the payments are made before 3pm, we were good to go. Guess I better check the fine print or move my payment date back a couple of days...

It figures. They charge you $12 for the "privilege" of paying THEM ON your due date. Thereby avoiding having to pay a $29 late fee or having to pay an overnight postage fee. Alot of people figure it's better then paying a late fee and being late on your credit. I'm sure some bank weenie thought that one up. Is there any other type of pay service you can use? My wife uses her bank's online pay service, but that takes one or twp days to confirm. The last suggestion is to mail it early as a last resort, avoiding the whole mess.

Jose, I fail to see how this is a rip off. WHO made the decision to pay ON the DUE DATE? YOU did, RIGHT? Save your $12 by just mailing a check about a week prior to the due date. Problem solved. OR, use the FREE online bill pay service that BofA offers.
