BankDirect - may not pay remaining interest when account closed
I planned to close my BankDirect account, but I wanted know if I would receive the interest for the final month if the account was closed before the end of the month. I was told that I would, so I wrote checks to transfer the entire balance elsewhere because I didn't want to lose much interest between the days the account was closed and until I received the check for the interest. But BankDirect claimed that this act meant I had closed my account, even though the balance was zero for only 1-2 days, and under such circumstances it was their practice to not pay any remaining interest, about $86 in my case. 2 employees admitted that this rule was never mentioned in their terms and disclosures but said it didn't matter, and they also didn't care that they had earlier promised to pay me the remaining interest. It took some heated argument to get them to agree to pay, and I had to wait another 2 weeks before they mailed the check.
I have never dealt with another bank that handled customer accounts in such an unethical and unusual manner.
