This it an email I sent to Bashas about a recent trip to their store at 7th Ave & Osborn in Phoenix, AZ....

ATTN: Dave Herrava or Rob Johnson

I am new to the Phoenix area, and live near your store on 7th Ave & Osborn. For the most part, I have been shopping at Safeway because, to be honest, it's a nicer store, however today I decided to give Bashas a try.

Because of the service I received, today was the first, last and only time I will ever shop at that particular Bashas, and I will think twice before I visit any other Bashas.

I needed to pickup a Western Union and groceries for dinner. On approaching the "Customer Service" (If you can call it that) Desk, I was greeted by a manager who's nametag read 'Michael G.'. He instructed me on how to use Western Union via the black phone on the desk, and then he said he would be right back & headed off toward the back of the store. -No Problem.

Once I had the transfer number, I returned to the desk and after a couple seconds I was greeted by 'Dave Mondavi'.

I told Mr. Mondavi that I need a form to receive a Western Union Transfer. Mr. Mondavi pointed to the black Western Union phone and told me to use it. I told him that I had already done that and now needed the slip to fill out.

Mr. Mondavi THREW a yellow pad of Western Union slips onto the counter in my direction said "Well I didn't know that!" in a very rude almost yelling tone. He then stormed into the office behind the Customer Service Desk and slammed the door.

Mr. Mondavi never returned to complete my transaction.

After about 5 minutes, Michael G., the first manager I dealt with did return, and took care of my transaction as well as provided me with the information I requested pertaining to the manager that had been so rude moments before.

He informed me that Mr. Mondavi was his boss, so I completely understand his not really being able to do anything more than providing me with the District Supervisor's Name.

Now - please tell me, why would you tolerate that kind of POOR customer service from of all people your store manager? I've never seen such behavior.

Take the advice of a customer and get Mr. Mondavi out of there to make room for people like Michael G. who know that their customers are THEIR PAYCHECKS!

You lost tonight's dinner order; I finished with the Western Union and then went to Safeway for my groceries. They have had perfect customer service each and every time I have visited the store.

I have extensive customer relations experience, and I can tell you with no uncertainty that with the type of service I received today, Bashas will not survive much longer in a competitive market as Phoenix.

If you have further questions, feel free to contact me at (602)-388-****.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

This was their responce...

That's right, No responce at all! No phone call, no email, nothing!

I guess in Basha's place I wouldn't want to explain the actions of that store manager either. I will contact Basha's today and let them know that they are now listed for the first time (as far as I can tell) on Rip-Off Report. Perhaps next time they will respond to their customers.

Basha's also owns the "Food City" Chain in Arizona, and I am told they just bought several "Albertsons" stores. God help their newly aquired employees.

I understand the time difference between the original poster (2007) and my comment now, will probably not mean much. However, I did have a problem with Bashas #3 at about the same time concerning some expired 35mm color film.

I went into the store for the purpose of purchasing some Fuji 800 film for my camera. I noticed that the only film available was expired. No problem. A little color shift from expired film can be corrected at the process level. I was hoping to maybe get the film at a discounted price. I approached the customer desk and asked the courtesy clerk behind the counter if I could speak with the manager. She appeared to be "bothered" by my request, but knocked on the managers door and an elderly woman comes out (her name escapes me after so many years). The courtesy clerk and her discuss something and they blow me off and just walk past.

No acknowledgment of my presence at all.

I wasn't there to complain but to make a purchase. A call to Bashas District office did zip.

I took my business to the Safeway, located catty-corner from #3 and noticed it was like day vs. night. The personnel at the Safeway were more receptive to their customers needs and wants. I mentioned my just previous endeavour at Bashas to the Safeway clerk. She just smiled and commented that other customers had suffered some wrath at that same Bashas.

To this day, I refuse to shop Bashas.

It's ironic because one of my first jobs in the working world was as a Courtesy Clerk...at Bashas #3.

I had the mis-fortune of working at store #3 as a Deli Clerk. not due to the deli, but more so Mr Mondavi on a power trip from hell. He is an un-professional ill-ethical manager whom his credentials and training remain un-verified. I attempted to transfer but HE "LOST" my transfer papers. Advice : Ask for one of the other managers. Michael is on the ball with his duties. He should be the store director and Dave should be termed.

I know Bashas all to well. Mr Mondavi is a fool. This guy has about 3 years of experience in retail and he B*llsh*tted his way to a management position. Shows how well the upper management is good at picking talent.
