It defies common sense. Are there no dependable cars in your area? It's just not logical to make a 10 hr. drive to purchase a relatively common vehicle that you've never seen before and has racked up 117K miles. The seller is counting on your overlooking things like transmission noise, since you'll have already invested a lot of time and gasoline just to get there. If you cannot fully test drive and have a used vehicle inspected before you buy it, you shouldn't be surprised if you end up with a problem car. As posted above, just about all used cars are sold "as is", so if you don't do your homework, you won't know what you're getting. The seller may be dishonest, but he couldn't have pulled this off without your generous cooperation.

you have to use some common sense. ""I am a teacher and single mom, I have a daughter in college and a son in the 10th grade and I needed a vehicle that would be dependable."" And there were NO reliable vehicles in your area that were for sale? You had to look several states away? Unfortunately, I don't know of any statutes that might help you. Since they are a dealer they are required by federal statutes to give you certain documentation regarding warranty or lack there of - you should have known this was an "as is" sale. Here in NY, all cars sold by a dealer must have a minimum warranty (mandated by state law) with 2 exceptions; the vehicle is sold for a purpose OTHER than to be driven on public roads OR the vehicle has OVER 100,000 actual miles on it. Your state or the seller's state might have similar statutes. This vehicle had 117,000 miles. I do agree with the other rebuttal in that I just don't understand how ANYONE would purchase a used car WITHOUT driving the vehicle and having a mechanic they trust evaluate the vehicle, let alone do so several states away from home.

You said you wanted a "dependable" vehicle. How do you discern a dependable vehicle WITHOUT TEST DRIVING it???? How do you have a clutch peddle on an automatic transmission vehicle (which is seemingly what you described. And finally, why in the hell would you waste your time with a vehicle you cannnot see or check out??? This buying a car on E-Bay is one of the stupidest thinggs I've ever heard. You got what you deserved.
