When my house burned down in 2012, I turned to Belfor for the construction based on their size and relationships with insurance carriers. The rebuild turned out to be a horror show. I won't place ALL the blame on Belfor, but when all was said and done I was bankrupt and tried to give the partially constructed house to the bank. That's when Belfor slapped a lien on the property, even though they would've received an additional $100K+ for the 90% inspection. They are taking me to court for $225K.
Did I mention I'm bankrupt? Now I have to engage a lawyer. Enough of this trauma. They made, in my opinion, several mistakes in the build - foundation footing not poured correctly, not accounting for drainage for the building, inability to have utilities turned on for literally months. My suggestion: Use ANYONE other than Belfor. My neighbor whose house was also a total loss from the fire used a local contractor and had a new home in less than a year. I have nothing but stress and heartache from the Belfor experience.
