Belfor USA Emergency, flood restoration scam san diego, California
I made the mistake of using Belfor USA for emergency restoration services after I had a flood. I did this at the referral of my insurance company. For some reason, the insurance companies recommend companies such as Belfor because their big companies and will indemnify them.
After a lot of smoke and mirrors and slight of hand about the costs - I discover I'm being completely ripped off. What would normally cost less than $5K my insurance companies being charged $25K - making Belfor rich. Their excuse is your insurance company is paying for this not you. Wrong, you the consumer are paying the insurance!!
After discovering this I fire them - however they'd already painted half a wall in my dining room. For this they charge me $5000!! Again, rip off! And yes their a big company with a legal department, who put a mechanics lien on my house. After two years I finally settle for half this.
To date, I've spoken with dozens(plural) people who've had the same experience. And, I've spoken with an ex-employee who was a project manager there. He claims he finally left because he didn't like ripping people off. Claims he had to have profit margins minimum of 35-38% - where other companies are happy with 15-20%. Belfor should be in the Ripoff Hall of Fame.
If your insurance company recommends Belfor - be very, very afraid!
